Documented Deception
~Rev. Moon, his movement and his members have a long history of documented deception. This has been understood for a long time. The questions are:
1) Are the charges of deception accurate?
2) If so, why do they do it?
~I will answer both these questions in the following 2 articles, by looking at the statements of Moon and examining the actual evidence.
1) Are the charges of deception accurate?
~Above, is a photograph that the Unification Church for years maintained was an: "amazing photograph that captured Rev. Moon rescuing an early follower after they were liberated from a North Korean concentration camp, taken by a United Nations photographer during the Korean War."
~Rev. Moon's life has already become legendary for his members, even before his death. One of the stories that is told, is that of Rev. Moon being imprisoned in N. Korea for preaching, and ultimately being freed by the United Nations forces, just shortly before he was to be executed. Just briefly, let me pause here, and mention, that in the UC, we were told that Moon's first wife left him at this time, because she didn't understand his mission as the messiah. It is presented as if she even objected to his going to North Korea to preach. What we were not told, was that Moon made his decision to leave his wife and go to North Korea when he had left the house to go buy rice for dinner. Imagine if you will, a man on his way to but rice, while his wife is preparing the rest of the meal at home, expectantly awaiting her husband, who is later and later in coming home. Who doesn't come home that night. Nor the next night, or for more than a year later. Imagine her fear that someone had killed her husband! He only went to buy rice! What could have happened? Still she did not remarry, and remained faithful, hoping that somehow he was still alive, after all, no one had recovered the body yet. Then realise, that after Moon got out of the prison, he came back to his hometown, and didn't even bother looking for his wife (who last saw her husband when he left to buy rice more than a year earlier, and was never told any differently) instead of bothering to tell his wife he was safe and had returned, he looked instead for all his friends, and began grouping them together as a little following, NEVER ONCE going to find his wife, or even sending anyone to tell her he was alive! This is Rev. Moon. He justifies this by saying it was "God's will". How long could it have taken for him to tell his wife before he left the house: "Honey, you may not understand this, but I am going to war torn North Korea because I feel God calling me to go there. I don't know what will happen, but I knew that as your husband, you had a right to know why I was leaving you, and where I was going." Was that so hard? How long did it take you to read those words? 10 or 15 SECONDS !? But Moon didn't believe that he had 10 or 15 seconds to explain to his wife, why he was leaving her alone to fend for herself in the aftermath of the Japanese Occupation of Korea, and was leaving his poor wife to take care of their young son alone! Some family man, huh?
~In any event, the members are often shown the picture that you saw above, and told that it is an actual photo discovered "by God's providence" that was taken by a U.N. Photographer during the war! Wow, here is "proof" that can't be disputed! I mean a U.N. photographer certainly has no connection to Moon, right? This celebrated photo was published in numerous Moonie literature, and even shown in several professional Promotional Videos that the Church had made on Moon's life and Moon's movement. There was only one problem with all of this:
THE PHOTO WAS A FAKE!
~According to award winning investigative journalist Robert Parry, church leaders now admit that the photo was not of Moon, and wasn't even taken in the same locality, as where Moon claims his "rescue" occurred!
~On the right, is an actual pamphlet that the Moonies produced, using the fake photo to back up Moon's story of the rescue. Parry says that the church leaders told him that "Father has said that it is not him, in the photo." Well...LA-DI-DA!!! Nice to let us know this AFTER you have gotten all the mileage you could out of the photo! But, isn't it possible that Moon simply didn't know that his over-zealous followers had used a picture without his knowledge and published it in literature and pasted it in Video Promos? If you are asking me, I say "Not a chance in...." Well, you get the idea! I have personally been with Moon, when he was brought videos from one of his political groups promoting the Strategic Defense Initiative, he previewed the whole thing, giving meticulous instructions on what changes to make before it could be shown to the public. Those instructions were followed explicitly! Moon rules with an Iron Fist. There is no possibility that so much literature and Promo-videos that starred his life, could have escaped his attention. It was typical Moonie deception, plain and simple! Have you ever seen a photo taken of you as an adult, and didn't recognise yourself? Particularly in such a dramatic moment? Moon certainly knew the photo was not him, but as the opportunist that he is, he allowed it to be used deceptively to sway others, in their opinion of Moon. To see him as a hero.
~What is amazing to me, looking back, is the question that I ask myself now: "How could I have ever believed that this was really Moon during that time period?" I ask myself that question because I had seen many other photos of Moon from the 1950's and he was skinny in every single one of them. The person in the fake photo, is obviously fairly plump. You can see how broad his face and shoulders are. Moon, on the other hand, had told us how he was imprisoned in a concentration camp that was famous as a place to send prisoners to die, because the work was so hard, and the food rations so meager. Moon had told us that prisoners would run over to take the food out of a fellow prisoners mouth, if he died while eating the tiny cup of rice they were fed. He told us that prisoners died usually within months of coming there. If all this were true, then imagine how SKINNY these guys would have been? Have you seen photos of starving Africans, or of starving Jews in concentration camps? Have you seen how they are skinny like broom sticks from lack of food? And here was Moon saying that even the food that was not enough to live on already, he was Giving Half Away to the other prisoners! Then Moon would have been even skinnier than all the other prisoners. But look at the photo, and see how healthy the guy carying the man on his back is?
~The collage of three images to your right, show Moon in the 1950's. Number one is from 1952 (this is a real image of Moon). Number 2 is from 1955 (this is also a real image of Moon), but you can see clearly that the person in Number 3 does not look the same. Even over a five year period, you can see that Moon stayed relatively slim, yet in the picture where Moon should be the skinniest that anyone has ever seen him, instead, he is the most heavy! Why? Because it isn't Moon! It is obvious, and should have been obvious to me as a member, having seen all these photos then! But I was blinded by the training I had received to NEVER - EVER - QUESTION Sun Myung Moon! If you are told that this stocky man was the Moon who supposedly was near starvation, then it is! No questions asked! This is the danger of controlling cults.
Are There Other Instances Of Deception?
~Many many instances. This whole website could be devoted to them all, here is another example:
DECEPTIVE SURVEYS
~On college campuses across the country, there are members of Moon's CARP (The Student Arm of His Movement) taking surveys. What's wrong with that? Well, let me share this testimony: When I was a member, one of my main functions was to fundraise (sell flowers for Moon to raise money). One day for no apparent reason, I and a few other *Center Members were taken to a College Campus to help take Surveys. I thought of this as a routine witnessing venture, until after years later I re-called the experience. I now realise that what we had done was deceptive. Why? Because, I am convinced now, that the reason that I and the other two Center Members were selected was because of our Youthful Appearance. We looked like College Students, we fit in. It was deceptive, because We were NOT College Students and we had no business in the school's cafeteria and hallways, taking surveys as if we were students. Aside from this, is the fact that the real purpose of the survey is to make a relationship with a potential recruit and invite him to the Group House or Center for a lecture on Moon. The surveys we took were never turned into the church, they were not tallied or collected, no position papers were ever produced with the results, etc.. It was all just a way of making a relationship with a young naive student that otherwise would not have been interested in talking to you. Though I didn't have this experience, many ex-members have reported that when they asked the Moonie that was trying to get them to go to a "Lecture on World Peace" if this was in any way connected to "Religion", they were told "No, oh no, we're just a group of students looking for anwers to world problems." This is too commonly reported among ex-members to be dismissed as isolated incidents. Rather, it seems to be "Business as Usual" in The Unification Church.
