Materials:
Worsted weight yarn-3.5 ozs approx.
Crochet hook size "N" & "P"(If using Moez
hooks, black and red should give you the guage)
5-3/4" buttons or a 9"-10" zipper
GAUGE:
With "N" hook, 6 vertical bars=2".
With "P" hook, 5 vertical bars=2".
NOTE: 1 row are basic afghan stitch(BAS)is
pulling up the loops and then working them off. The first st on
the hook at the beggining of a row counts as 1 sts in that row!
So if it says, "Work 4 sts onto hook, and this is at the
beggining of a row, pull up a loop in the next 3, because the
first 1 will count as 1. 1+3=4 :-)
TO INCREASE CORNERS: Insert hook in horizontal bar at TOP of row,
RIGHT before the stitch that is to be increase, pull up a loop,
pull up a loop into the next real st, then insert hook into
horizontal bar RIGHT AFTER the st just worked, and pull up a
loop.
When instructed to RETURN, work loops off hook 2 at a time. This
is just the basic step that completes the row.
YOKE
With "N" hook, ch 28
1. Work 1 row of Basic Afghan Stitch(BAS).
2. Work 4 sts onto hook(see note). INC CORNER, work 4 sts, INC
CORNER, work 8 sts, INC CORNER, work 4 sts, INC CORNER, work last
4 sts, RETURN(see note).
3-9: *Work sts onto hook, until CENTER st of next increase, INC
CORNER in this st. Rep * across to last corner. Work rem sts onto
hook. RETURN.
10: Work sts onto hook till center st of next corner, pull up
loop in center st, sk sts in between, pull up loop in next center
sts. Pull up loop in each st across back and in center st of next
corner. Sk sts in between, pull up loop in center st of next
corner, and in rem sts. RETURN.
11-19. Change to "P" hook, work even in afghan stitch
for 50 sts across. At end of row, fasten off.
EDGING
(Omit button holes(this section) and work sc around ENTIRE
sweater if putting in a zipper. After that, go straight to "COLLAR")
With right side facing, begin on right side of sweater front, at
top, WITH "N" sc in each row end across(to avoid holes,
work row end and horizontal running thread between row end and
first st). 2 sc in bottom corner, sc end each vertical bar across
bottom, 2 sc in corner, Sc up side of sweater(left front). At top
of left front, CH 2, turn, sk 1 sts, sk in next sc(button hole
made), *sc in next 4 sc, ch 1. Rep * down side, at corner, ch1,
turn, SL ST VERY loosely in
each sc and in each ch 1 sp for botton holes.DO NOT FASTEN OFF!
COLLAR:
USING "N" hook, and working along neck,Pull up 30 loops
around neck, RETURN. Work 5 rows or BAS, SC across top at end of
last row. Fasten off
SLEEVES:
Attatch yarn at underarm to first vertical bar, WITH
"P" pull up a loop in 20 sts around armhold(this will
be tight the first row because the holes are round and the hook
is not, Just pull the loop up with your finger, and put in on the
hook.). RETURN. Work a total of 3 rows.
DEC ROW: Insert hook into next 2 vertical bars at one time, pull
up a loop(DEC MADE), Pull up a loop in next 2 sts, *DEC next 2 st
together, pull up a loop in next 2 sts. REP * across. (15 sts),
Work 2 more rows are BAS, sl st in each vertical bar across after
last row. Fasten off, leave a 10" tail and sew sleeve
together securely with tail.
Work second sleeve the same way.
Weave in ALL ends, sew buttons on, or sew zipper on with thread
and needle or a machine.
