Porgera, is in Enga the Southern Highlands provience of Papua New Guinea.
The company "Porgera Joint Venture", as the name implies is joint Canadian/Papua New Guinean gold mine.
The mine is both open-cut and underground and a very rich mine with gold deposits at around 25g/tonne (Australian mines are @ 3-4 g/tonne)
My family stayed in Australia, whilst I worked away, on a roster of 16 days away/12 days home, flying out via Cairns
At the minesite housing is in the form of a large dry construction camp (no alcahol was allowed) with a double razor wire lined perimeter fence
I initially worked underground then transferred to manage the 65MW Powerstation (pawahaus)70km away.
