Review:
Camp Chase has done it again - they have
assembled another superb recording of fife and
drum music! Volume III, Above the Clouds,
features numerous selections played by these
masters of music. The 40+ selections are
primarily songs from the mid 18th century up
through the Civil War. Included with the
recording is a booklet that provides a mini
history behind each piece, being able to read
about the origin of each song also provides an
excellent music history lesson. The great music
on this CD will make you listen to it over and
over and over again. For the reenactor, it will
keep you entertained on those long rides home
from an event; for the enthusiast, it will
expose you to true fife and drum music just as
it sounded so long ago. My recommendation to
you, get a hold of Above the Clouds by The Camp
Chase Fifes and Drums - you will have the drums
beating and the fifes sounding in your head for
months!

Review:
Although this recording is not composed of
strictly Civil War period music, it is most
definitely one of the best CDs of fife and drum
music available. The Old Guard Fife and Drum
Corps is an organization in the U.S. Army
representing the musical history of the Army.
They wear the uniforms mandated by regulations
of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary
War and play music from the 18th century. Their
recording, Sprit of America, captures the corps'
music at its very best. They combine the music
of the incredibly talented fifers, drummers, and
buglers to form a fast paced and entertaining CD
that will leave you anxiously waiting their
second volume. The selections they play range
from moderate fife and drum tunes to intricate
combinations of drum tactics and bugling. This
really is a unique CD with surprises around
every corner. I highly recommend checking out
Spirit of America - I know you'll love
it!
