Caution: Joints of roots are poisonous, use only the protions of root between the joints. Very strong herb. Should not be taken in large doses.

Medicinal Uses: Helps regulate liver and bowels. Good for liver diseases, uterine diseases. Drop of juice of fresh root in ear to help deafness. Powdered root is good for sores and ulcers. Steep a teaspoon of ground root in a pint of boiling water, use only one teaspoon of this tea at a time. Gather the root in late fall and dry in the shade.
Food Uses: Fruit may be eaten.
Other Uses: Soak corn seeds in juice of root before planting to keep insects and birds off plants.
