My G-Uncle Jack McCracken who was killed in action during World War II.  He never had the chance to marry, to be a father but he was a son and a brother and loved by his family.  God bless you Uncle Jack.  Many thanks.

Mrs. Bloom has learned that her brother, Pvt John McCracken is now confined to a hospital somewhere in England, following his being wounded slighly in the action in France.
THIS NOTICE WAS IN THE PAPER BEFORE THE NOTICE SAYING HE WAS KILLED.  HE WAS WOUNDED BUT THEN RETURNED TO THE FIGHTING.

OPERATION TRIBUTE TO FREEDOM
McCracken, John (Jack) is killed in war action.   Mrs. Anna Bloom of Kerr Addition was notified on Sat. that her brother PFC. John W. McCracken, age 29 who made his home with her before entering the Armed Forces had been killed in action in France.   According to the telegram she received, his death occured on January 7, 1945.  John had been a member of the Armed Forces since Oct. 31, 1942 and trained at Fort Meade in Maryland, before sent overseas in April 1944.   A member of the infantry he was wounded in the fighting in France early last summer and was awarded the purple heart.   He is survived by one sister and three brothers:  Mrs. Anna Bloom of Clearfield, Walter Mccracken serving with the Army in Burma; William B. McCracken of Osceola Mills and Daniel McCracken.  Both parents preceeded him in death.   He leaves two nephews serving in the U.S. Army.  Cpl Henry D. Bloom in France and Pvt. Orville McCracken, Camp Craft. S. Carolina.

McCracken, Walter, brother of John; Daniel & William;   Son of Charles & Mary (Coder) McCracken.   Walter served in the Army stationed in Burma, India.   He served with the 173 Quartermaster Battalion, Mobile.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campain Medal with 2 Bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal.  Honorable Discharge Dec. 5, 1945.
