Daniel Ogden was the 1st permanent settler in Clearfield. Matthew Ogden built the 1st grist Mill J.B. Ogden was the secretary of the Mt. Joy Grange organized in 08/16/1885 Joab Ogden, early settler of western Clearfield co., DuBois First conveyence of town lots (Clearfield) were made to Matthew Ogden; Robert Collins and William Tate in the year 1807. Rueben Mayhew was the local shoemaker, lived in Lawrence township. Alexander Irwin built a grist mill on the site formerly occupied by Matthew Ogden. Matthew Ogden belonged to the Mt. Joy Grange in 1885. |

CELEBRATES GOLDEN WEDDING - Mr. & Mrs. Calvin Shirey |
The subject of this sketch are Mr. and Mrs. Calvin H. Shirey of Bradford Township whose farm home is located at Pleasant Valley on the Woodland to Shawville road. Calvin H. Shirey and Olive Wilson were united in marriage, March 11, 1886, fifty years ago Wednesday of this week, by Rev. B.F. Noon of Woodland United Brethren Church; the groom being the son of the late John and Martha Shirey and the bride the daughter of the late Nicholas and Margaret Wilson. Their license number was No. 145 significant in view of the fact that not many years prior to its issuance that a license was required to wed in this state Taking up farming pursuits, the couple rapidly established themselves as pillars of virtue in the community and as homemakers of extraordinary qualifications. Six children live to enjoy the blessings of the Shirey home. They are: Millie, wife of Mr. Ralph Forcey; Vada, wife of Perry McDowell; Stanley, at home; Iva, wife of Floyd Wilson; Kenneth of Bigler and Harold, at home. |
Woodland Wedding, Saturday, December 27 1913 Margaret Fleming, daughter of George R and Mrs. Fleming, Curwensville, became the bride of Thomas E. Wisor, son of John E. & Mrs. Wisor of Woodland. The groom is an efficient barbar.
