Dear Father:

Yours of the 26th came to hand last night. The box you spoke of has not yet arrived. However, it may come to-morrow.

One of our Brigadier Generals has arrived, General Foster, formerly a Captain in Fort Sumter and whose brother I believe, lives in Lawrence. He reviewed our regiment yesterday, and also inspected minutely the arms, equipment, dress and appearance of each man. We were in very good shape yet he found some things out of the way which we would hardly have noticed.

The Captain has sent to Washington to find out in regard to Watkins coming on. I hope it will be arranged to that he can come on soon. I was on guard the day after you left. It is an awful disagreeable day to-day. I feel rather blue. If I ever go into anything again I will take the best chance I can possibly get. I feel and know that I know a great deal more about military knowledge than a great many who rank higher than I do; and I see no chance of anything better. However, it can't be helped,.so we must make the most of it. But next time I shall do the best I can. I shall, however, try to conquer such feelings as they can do no good. My head aches slightly to-night, so I will stop writing and go to bed. Love to all.

                                                                                                                                               Yours truly,

                                                                                                                                               William F. Draper
