Sweet pepperbush is one of the most common plants along the shore of Hopedale Pond as well as many other ponds in the area. The flowers remain on the bush into the following year, making it quite easy to identify even in the winter. Alder and blueberry make up most of the rest of the vegetation along the pond shore, once you get beyond the bathhouse and into The Parklands, along with some honeysuckle, Virgiania rose, buttonbush, gray birch, red maple and a few different species of oak.
