Please email me if you have any advice on where to look or if you have any
info--I am looking to trace my family tree. Great-grandfather James Lindsay
Barnes emigrated to the US around the turn of the century, his parents converted to
Mormonism. Was about age 5 at the time. Born in a town outside Edinburgh. This
is all I know--my grandparents are gone now, and these ar just stories I have heard.
Thank you...

I have information that may or not be useful to you. I am a Garner. My uncle
Joe wrote a book (which happens to have been on the best seller list in Canada)
that you may find very interesting. Also, Joe was interested in tracing our family.
His cousin Virginia Green a Carolinian, traced the family history. She was only
able to find that the family came from England but didn't get much other information.
His book is a combination of how his family was born and raised in British
Columbia. However, th part that would be of interest to you is that his dad, Oland Joseph
Garner (brother Frank) married Lona Beatrice Edwards (b 1902 d 1961) in Spartanburg,
South Carolina in July 1903. Due to problems with the KKK he left
town immediately afterwards and mo ed to Canada. They in turn had 10 children,
Ethel b 19005, Tom b 1907 d 1958, Joe b 1909 d 1999, Margaret b 1911, Pearl b
1914, Edie b 1916, Ollie b 1918, Albert b 1920, Lloyd b 1923 and Dorothy b 1926.
He mentions certain relatives in this book, John Nance Garner IV wad
Oland's cousin. Even Jesse James. Anyway, the name of the book is called
"Never Fly over an eagle's nest published by oolichan. It would be easy to find it in
Canada and probably coul be ordered through a major book store here. I know
I've seen this particular book (he's written several more). I would be very interested to
find out if we are related. Please let me know if this information is helpful
and especially if this is another limb on your (and my) tree. I was born Mary-Lynn Holly
Garner in 1954. Mary-Lynn Yeager

attached, this was then a mistake I made. My grandfather Cartwright was born
somewhere in England on March 6, 1879 and was married to Agnes Gardner (born in
Rutherglen, Scotland n Dec. 11, l857). These two were married on March 6,
l879 at Alma, St. Clair County, Illinois. I would love to be able to establish
more information on either the Gardner or Cartwright family. Thanks for
writing. Maxine

My surname became Garner in 1769 following the incorrect spelling of Gardener
in Suffolk Church. Accent overcame reality and the marriage register in church
shows X as signature, the happy couple could not read. Gardeners traced back to
1628 in Suffolk. eep up the good work.
