For those who have never heard of David Carr, for your information he is the first draft pick of the expansion team Houston Texans and also the highest paid rookie football player in the history of the National Football League. You may be wondering why I am writing about him. Early this morning (August 19, 2002) as I woke up the Lord Jesus Christ impressed upon me to pray for David Carr. So in obedience to the Lord I prayed for him this morning. During the prayer I was also impressed to publish a web site and ask the Christian brothers and sisters in the ARK Forum to pray for him. This is very unusual because I have never published a web site on a football player. I just obeyed God.
There are three things I have in common with David Carr. First, both of us have lived in Bakersfield, California, and both have moved to Houston, Texas. Second, we are both Christians who want to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ through our respective professions. David’s career has just begun and mine is still being blessed by God. Third, we both love our families and want to maintain a good relationship with them. |

During my morning prayer I was deeply impressed with three things to pray for David Carr.
1. Pray for his safety during the games and also to maintain good health throughout his career.
2. Pray for him to maintain a good relationship with his family while pursuing success in his career.
3. Pray for him to be a good witness for the Lord Jesus Christ and a role model for the young people.
If you happen to live in Houston,
Texas you will hear and read a lot about the Houston Texans expansion football
team, the new Reliant football stadium which is the most advanced in the world, and of
course, the sensational quarterback David Carr. The media mostly talk and write about his athletic skills, but when
I started to research the Internet I discovered that he is also a very good
Christian who prays and reads the Bible every morning. I am going to share with you what I learned
about this young man as a Christian and also why we should all pray for him.
for Web Site describing David Carr's Christian background.
Pray for David Carr’s safety In one of the articles that I am sharing with you David and his family was involved in an automobile accident on February 21, 2002 that could have killed all of them. If the Lord had not protected his family the world would have lost an outstanding Christian athlete.
The original Texans’ plan was to let David Carr develop slowly and play as a third string quarterback until he gained more experience and confidence. The first and second string quarterbacks have not been effective in the training camp and exhibition games and the Texans have signed another veteran quarterback. According to the head coach Dom Capers David Carr will be the starting quarterback when the football season opens. It will be open season for the opposing defensive lines against the rookie quarterback. Pray for David’s safety. The two veteran tackles Tony Boselli and Ryan Young that were taken in the expansion draft are supposed to protect David Carr in the offensive line. Since these two players are on the injured list David is left with an inexperienced offensive line. Pray for David’s protection from God.
Last Saturday night (August 17, 2002) the Texans were playing their third exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs. During the game after David had thrown the football to his receiver an opposing defender blindsided and speared his helmet against David’s back. This action is illegal and should be a flagrant foul. It can cause very serious injuries. Thank God David got up. A roughing the passer penalty of 15 yards was awarded plus the 36 yard pass completion gave the Texans 51 yards gain. In the coming games opposing teams will blitz him constantly. Please pray for David Carr’s safety.
Pray for
David Carr’s family From the
web sites I am sharing you will see David Carr is a family man who loves his
wife Melody and their son Austin. It's
also worth noting that Carr has relied heavily on another quarterback Trent
Dilfer for advice in making the transition from the college to the pro
level. And Dilfer has stressed one
thing above all else: "Take care of your family." "He told me to spend more time with my
wife when I'm home, to make sure she's included in everything," Carr said.
"If your home life is stable, then the football stuff will be like high
school or when you were playing in the backyard." Please pray real hard
for David Carr and his family.
Pray for
David Carr’s Christian Witness In an interview with a reporter from "USA Today"
David Carr shared a little bit about his Christian faith. "There are a lot of people who just want
to come up and say `Hi,' and that's fine because maybe it means you're doing
something right," Carr said. "I think that's the reason God put me
here, so I can hopefully be a positive role model in the world. . . . . If
people only understand one thing about me, I hope they understand that I'm just
a normal guy. I'm not trying to be bigger than life. Some people want you to be
bigger than life. I'm just David Carr -- Melody's husband, Austin's dad, a good
Christian and hopefully a good NFL quarterback."
It is an
undeniable fact that many impressionable kids, not just in America but the
whole world, look at celebrities as their role models. That is why Hollywood even made a movie “Be
like Mike” – after Michael Jordan who
does not have any Christian witness at all.
There are not too many sports celebrities in America who would openly
talk about their Christian faith to the media.
David Carr can really be a good ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ in
the sports world. Please pray for David
Carr.
The Power of Prayer During their first exhibition game on
Monday night August 5, 2002 against the New York Giants in the Hall of Fame
stadium in Canton, Ohio Texans safety Leomont Evans was seriously injured and
could not move on the field. Evans had
temporarily lost feeling in his arms and legs.
The camera focused on the injured player being carried out on the
stretcher and also showed the Texans team on the sidelines. Every coach, assistant and player had knelt
down on the grass and prayed for their fallen comrade. Even the opposing players of the New York
Giants prayed on their sideline. This
was a very touching moment of camaraderie and great demonstration of America’s
faith in God even on the playing field.
Millions of Americans who had watched the game on television and also in
the stadium had been praying for Evans.
Today Evans is walking again.
Prayer does really work even for football players when we all pray in one accord. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ for listening to our prayers. So please pray for David Carr who is not just any other football player. He is our brother in the Lord Jesus Christ
May God bless
You
