One of the most unexpected influences of the 1970s came from Japan.  The japanese designers who emerged in that decade are now among the most respected leaders of the fashion world.  Their radical and intellectual work has been exhibited in art galleries and museums and has been sold in shops across the globe.
Kansai Yamamoto created dramatic garments inspired by japanese culture and in 1971 opened his own house  of design,  featuring a unique and abstract style, heavily influenced by Kabuki puppet theater.
