Dedicated to My Grandparents
With all my love, Lori
This Tree

This Tree
The picture I will paint,
The one I hope you will see,
Is similiar, I think
To this old oak tree
Stand back and observe its bark,
Jagged and marked
with the passage of time,
Some would say,
How did it survive?,
Others would think,
why didn't it divide?
At the base I'd like you to see,
Dave and Esther
as proud as can be,
Their strongest root is one of love,
It reaches deep in the earth,
It was sent from above,
Many other roots support this tree,
All of which I want you to see,
There is one of trust and fairness, too,
Justice, faith, and an honest spirit,
One of hope and kindness there,
Strong foundations
for the branches it will bear.
Stand back now and notice the branches,
Each one different for all to see,
Each individual,
as God designed them to be.
Within life there are always problems,
And so, true with this tree,
For some branches are broken,
Ugly and barren they lay,
But for growth to real,
whole and complete
All must play its part,
Even agony, and sometime defeat.
The outstanding feature
that cannot be denied.
This tree never stopped growing,
or gave up and died.
It continues to reach out
twig upon branch,
In all its magnificence
never left to mere chance.
Time continues on, Years will pass,
But this old oak tree
grows more beautiful,
a tribute to its class,
For it never forgets it beginning, you see,
Its roots will remain
a strong part of this tree.
