Danceteria Reunion Party - Class of 1984

The Danceteria Reunion party was a blast from the past. Held at Downtime on 30th and 7th Ave in New York. Dj’s spun great music from the club’s hayday like Cabaret Voltaire, Bauhaus, Grandmaster Flash, Grace Jones, Blondie, the Clash, Pig Bag, Heaven 17 and more. Friends and original members of the club reunited after 20 years and gathered by the entrance lounge. Videos played throughout the night showing the stars and performers of the club and the downtown  80’s scene.  Films like “Desperatly Seeking Susan” and “Liquid Sky” played in slow motion so members could spot themselves as they appeared as extras in the film’s club sequences. Karan Finley, poured black beans and chocolate cake all over her naked body again on video from her performances at the club. Never before seen footage of legendary artist  Kenny Scharf  driving around New York in his custom painted Scharf Cadillac . The original trailers of MTV, “I want my MTV”, was shown. Andy Warhol’s polaroids of Nick Rhodes and all the first years of interview magazine covers showing those incredible portraits were shown. Live bands and performance artists performed downstars in the pit of the multi-leveled club. It was a great evening for all members of the club, new and old. Many thanks to the original staff for creating the event and to the music and video and entertainment they put together. It was truly an incredible time for a club like Danceteria to have been around and left so many with great memories.
