When you check into your hotel, please note that the front desk will retain your passport as security deposit. Do ensure that you get a passport retention acknowledge slip from them. Your passport will be returned to you when you checked out from the hotel. If you do not want your passport to be placed as deposit with the hotel reception, then a cash or credit card deposit is required. The amount varies among the hotels.
