Final Fantasy 8

An aloof young man and his school-mates from an elite military academy set out to foil the evil plans of the sorceress Edea, only to find that the true threat to the world is far worse than any mere human's ambitions.

MIDIs with the indicator "[Y]" mean that that particular MIDI was ripped from the FF8 PC port by Yura. Check out his readme notes for more info.

[ Disc 1 | Disc 2 | Disc 3 | Disc 4 ]

Disc 1

Liberi Fatali | 2 | 3 | 4 | Lyrics | -- Final Fantasy 8's excellent opening theme. Along with the movie, this makes for a breathtakingly beautiful introduction to the game.
Balamb GARDEN | 2 | [Y] | -- Music heard in Balamb GARDEN.
Blue Fields | 2 | [Y] | -- The mysterious music heard on the overworld.
Don't Be Afraid | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | [Y] | 2 | -- Determined-sounding orchestral theme of a standard battle.
The Winner | 2 | 3 | [Y] |-- FF8's fanfare conclusion to a successful battle.
Find Your Way | 2 | [Y] | -- The enigmatic music heard in such places as the Fire Cavern and the Tomb of the Unknown King.
SeeD | [Y] | -- Played whenever Headmaster Cid is briefing you on a mission.
The Landing | [Y] | Last Half Only | -- An excellently adventurous theme heard in only two places in the game: the first time when landing at Dollet and the second time in Disc 2 during the conflict between the two mobile GARDENs.
Starting Up | [Y] | [Y] (First Half Only) | -- The ominous-sounding music heard during the FMV in which the EM Tower's sattelite dish is being set up.
Force Your Way | [Y] | -- First heard when fighting the omnipresent (at least in Final Fantasy) Guardian Force Ifrit, this is the standard boss theme.
The Loser | 2 | [Y] | -- Most likely to be heard after a boss battle, this is the music played whenever you lose a battle. If you listen until the very end, you'll notice that "The Prelude" of past Final Fantasy games has not been left out of this game...
Seifer casts a fireball at Squall.Never Look Back | [Y] | -- Percussive music played during the escape from the mechanical spider-boss at Dollet, as well as during the inter-GARDEN conflict when Squall decides to board Galbadia GARDEN.
Dead End | [Y] | -- Heard during the final Dollet FMV in which Squall and party are fleeing Dollet for the SeeD ships.
Breezy | 2 | [Y] | -- Peacefully repetitive theme heard in places like Balamb Town.
Shuffle or Boogie | [Y] | -- The "down and dirty" music heard while playing Triple Triad.
Waltz for the Moon | 2 | 3 | [Y] | -- First heard at the SeeD graduation ball, this waltz is played during the famous Rinoa and Squall dance FMV.
Tell Me | [Y] | -- Heard when Quistis takes Squall to her "secret place".
Fear | [Y] | -- Heard in such places as the Balamb GARDEN Training Center.
The Man with the Machine Gun | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | [Y] | -- Laguna's hyper, disco-type battle theme.
Julia | 2 | [Y] | Drum Remix | -- A piano rendition of the later-heard "Eyes on Me", this is heard in Deling City's bar where Julia is performing.
Roses and Wine | 2 | 3 | [Y] | -- Gentle music heard in Julia's hotel room.
Junction | [Y] | -- Heard after the first "Laguna's dream world" event, this theme is heard in the underwater research base as well.
Timber Owls | [Y] | -- Quirky theme of the Timber-based resistance group.

Disc 2

My Mind | [Y] | -- Heard when you meet Rinoa for the first time, this seems to be the theme for "Squall and Rinoa moments".
The Mission | [Y] | -- First heard during the Timber Owls' "great train robbery", this is also heard during Balamb GARDEN's conflict of Disc 2.
Martial Law | [Y] | -- Rather boring theme heard in Timber City.
Cactus Jack (Galbadian Anthem) | [Y] | -- An uninspiring theme heard when President Deling makes his first speech on EM.
Only a Plank Between One and Perdition | [Y] | -- This is first heard when storming into Timber's television station, but also in other such high-energy situations.
SUCCESSION OF WITCHES | [Y] | -- First heard in Timber immediately after Seifer runs off with President Deling, this is heard whenever Sorceress Edea makes an appearance.
Galbadia GARDEN | [Y] | [Y] (No Intro) | -- The somewhat bland theme of Galbadia GARDEN..
Unrest | [Y] | -- ??
Under Her Control | [Y] | -- Heard in Deling City, this music is guaranteed to drive you almost as insane as "Shuffle or Boogie" will.
Edea observes the assembled crowds of Deling City with indifference. The Stage is Set | [Y] -- First heard when General Caraway is showing you where your posts are for the assassination mission.
A Sacrifice | [Y] | -- This is probably the music heard during Edea's "...Lowlifes....Pitiful wretches" speech.
FITHOS LUSEC WECOS VINOSEC | [Y] | [Y] (Last Half Only) | -- Heavily percussive music heard during the amazing "witch parade" FMVs.
Intruders | [Y] | -- First heard in Deling's sewers, this is a great "sneaky" theme.
Premonition | [Y] | -- Wow. This is an excellent battle theme, first heard during the fight with Edea just after the assassination attempt and thereafter whenever fighting her or another sorceress.
Wounded | [Y] | -- Organ piece heard during the FMV in which Squall is...well...wounded by Edea.
Fragments of Memories | [Y] | -- First heard at the beginning of Disc 2, this is played during some of Laguna's flashbacks.
Jailed | [Y] | -- Heard in only one place in the game: the Desert Prison.
Rivals | [Y] | -- This plays during a rather interesting scene in the Desert Prison when Squall is interrogated by Seifer.
Ami | 2 | [Y] | -- Heard in Trabia GARDEN, this is played when Irvine and company are remembering their past at Edea's orphanage.

Disc 3

The Spy | [Y] | -- "Infiltration" music heard when Selphie and co. are sneaking into the Galbadian army's missile base.
Retaliation | [Y] | -- Heard during the Galbadian missile launch FMVs.
Movin' | [Y] | -- Heard just after "Retaliation", "Movin'" plays when Squall and co. are searching for the hidden controls of the GARDEN.
Blue Sky | [Y] | -- Success! This is heard after Squall and co. finally find GARDEN's hidden control room and get it moving.
Drifting | [Y] | -- Usually heard whenever you see Ellone.
Heresy | [Y] | -- An ominous, organ-heavy piece heard when speaking to NORG underneath Balamb GARDEN.
Fisherman's Horizon | [Y] | Concert Music | -- The peaceful music of--where else?--FH.
ODEKA de Chocobo | [Y] | -- A cute, simple chocobo theme that sounds like something that would be heard on the NES.
Where I Belong | [Y] | -- A gentle piece similar to "Ami" heard in Trabia GARDEN.
Fisherman's Horizon. The Oath | [Y] | -- Solemn music heard in such times as during Squall's encouragement speech during the inter-GARDEN conflict.
Slide Show Part 1 | [Y] | -- Melodramatic 1930's-movie-style music heard during the filming of Laguna's movie (co-starring Kiros and Ward as the Red Dragon).
Slide Show Part 2 | [Y] | -- Hyper-speed ragtime piece heard just before fighting the real red dragon.
Love Grows | [Y] | -- Heard near the end of Julia and Laguna's conversation on Disc 1.
The Salt Flats | [Y] | -- Heard in the "dungeon" Squall and company pass through before reaching Esthar.
Trust Me | [Y] | -- First heard when Julia tells Laguna about her childhood dreams.
Silence and Motion | [Y] -- Esthar's quirky, futuristic theme.
Dance with the Balamb-fish | [Y] | -- First heard during the SeeD graduation ball, this is also Dollet's theme after Galbadia has left the city.
Tears of the Moon | [Y] | -- Heard in the Estharian space station.
Residents | [Y] | -- Heard on the Ragnarok airship, when Squall and Rinoa are exterminating the Propogators.
Eyes On Me | 2 | Lyrics | -- The famous vocal track by Faye Wong, this is heard just after Rinoa and Squall reach the control room of the Ragnarok and pause for a breather. I really have to question Rinoa's timing on this one.  I mean, I don't think that a proper time to be romantic is after having slain a shipful of Alien-type monsters, but apparently Squaresoft and a host of Hollywood movies think otherwise.

Disc 4

Mods de Chocobo (featuring N's Telecaster) | [Y] | -- This is heard when riding a chocobo. Sort of like a "Nobuo Uematsu meets the Beach Boys" type of thing.
Ride On | [Y] | -- The flight music of the Ragnarok.
Truth | [Y] | -- First heard in Edea's house, this also plays when Rinoa announces that she has accepted Edea's powers.
Lunatic Pandora | [Y] | -- The quirky-yet-ominous theme of the Lunatic Pandora (no, not the "crazy Pandora" but the "Pandora of the moon").
Compression of Time | [Y] | -- A softly atmospheric piece, this is heard only once just after entering the newly time-compressed world.
Squall and Rinoa stare at fireworks over Balamb GARDEN. The Castle | [Y] | -- The organ music heard in Ultimecia's Castle.
The Legendary Beast | [Y] |-- Heard while fighting Griever, the second fight of the multi-tiered final battle (the first fight against human Ultimecia has "Premonition" as its theme).
Maybe I'm a Lion | [Y] -- Percussive, energetic music heard when fighting combined Ultimecia-Griever during the third fight of the final battle.
The Extreme | 2 | [Y] | -- Heard during the final fight with Ultimecia.
The Successor | [Y] | -- Heard just after beating Ultimecia (Squall's Limit Break rocks. 'Nuff said).
Ending Theme -- Is it my imagination, or has Nobuo Uematsu left his imagination at the door when naming ending themes?
Overture | [Y] | -- Mediocre music heard during the credits/slide show that appears if you leave the game at the title screen for too long.
