These audiocassettes contain interviews with everyday people who are searching for their American dream. Through these people we see the diversity of their Dream as shown by their races, classes, and creed. We hear those who persist in making their hopes come true. This series of cassettes exemplify how everyone has similar dreams and with determination one can reach their dreams.

This is a valuable resource although it is long 6 hours. It would be great for groups of students to listen to sections of the audio series. Then they could present what they learned. The quality of the sound was excellent.

1 video recording & teachers guide.

Shows the history of African-Americans from the African diaspora to the 1960's. The video shows the contributions to American society and the struggle for civil rights.

This video is exceptional because it not only gives the history behind the African American culture but also how they influenced on our society today.

Great video source for multicultural education. The video contains 2 parts, part 1 is Your classroom, your world and part 2 is Your book connections. The video is a collection of stories about holidays, customs of different cultures and languages. It is a great overview of different holidays that are celebrated around the world.

The quality of the video and sound was adequate. This is a great introduction to a unit on diversity because it is short and it covers many different holidays and customs.

Bridges across the world sound recording: a multicultural songfest. By Sarah Barchas. High Haven Music, Sonoita, AZ : p1999.

This music cassette is performed by Sarah Barchas and the De Colores Chorus. The companion book has lyrics with English translations as well as a "Languages appendix for 12 languages. This source is a terrific collection of both original and traditional songs. There are three types of songs: folk songs from different cultures, songs about understanding others, and multilingual songs.

The quality of the sound was high with a nice blend of vocals and music. The selections of songs where varied and represented many cultures.

A child's world of lullabies sound recording: multicultural songs for quiet times. Performed by Hap and Penny Palmer. Hap-Pal Music, Inc., Topanga, CA : 1993.

This is a collection of lullabies for pre-schoolers or younger; or those studying lullabies. Songs includes are: Hush little baby, A la nanita nana, Chippewa lullaby, Bamboo flute, and Dormite ninito and many more.

The sound quality was high with the music and vocals in a nice proportion. There were lyrics provided in the jacket label.

This video series teaches children about prejudice. The subject is prejudices that may occur in their lives such as fairness, awareness, inclusion and respect. The videos are all labeled with descriptive titles such as: Sticks and stones, Cinderella and me, Long distance, Play ball, Club, Tug of war, Proud to be me, I'm an American, too, Words on the wall, and a training video.

This is a great series especially for the Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The problem is the amount of space it occupies. It comes in 10 different VHS cassettes each with only 10 to 15 minutes on each. It would have been nice if it was edited together into one or two different cassettes. The subjects and the quality of the production of the videos are high.

This music cassette is a collection of multicultural and original songs that attempts to take the listeners to different parts of the world such as to Africa for African chants and Scotland to Scottish marches.

This audiocassette is a lively music collection that will keep the young listener from grades Kindergarten to 3rd grade entertained. The quality of sound was high it was in stereo.

 

 

Ethnic Diversity video recording. PBS Video, 1993.

A "Club Connect series" for higher grades approximately 6-12th grade. The video has multi-ethnic teenagers discusing topics about racial discord and benefits of a multicultural nation. The video has famous people such as rapper MC Serch and actor Brendon Fraser talking about racism.

This video is a great introduction to the subject of ethic diversity for older student. The will appreciate the fact that peers are discussing the issue as it relates to them. The production quality of the video and sound is good.

Ethnic man video recording. Written, produced, and directed by Teja Arboleda and Barbara Wilson Arboleda. AGC/United Learning, Evanston : c2000.

Teja Arboleda is the famous Ethnic Man and his act is now on video. His program helps students greater understand the term "multiculturalism". This video has students understand the different cultures and background of people around them.

This is a great video for students in grades 5 through 12. Teja Arboleda is an entertaining performer who keeps the viewer interested in the topic. The video is up to date and visually interesting.

This video is from the series "JVC video anthology of world music and dance." The book is a great companion to the video because it contains program notes, indexes,

and sequence of each program, cultural background, and glossaries. The video shows different dances such as folk, rumbas and sword. The video show the diversity of the cultures music and dance through out Europe.

This video is of high quality and the sound is great. There is no narrations but the video flows fluently from one country to another. The book is a valuable resource for teachers to use as a guide.

Holiday facts & fun video recording : a multicultural Christmas. Produced, written

and directed by Warren Colman. United Learning, Niles, IL : c1993.

This video shows how five ethnically diverse families celebrate Christmas. During the celebrations we see different cultures perform different traditions.

This is a good resource for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. It quickly touches on different traditions and can be an introduction to how they celebrate the holidays.

This video teaches children that their words can hurt other people. They learn that there are consequences to what they say and they must be accountable for whatever they say whether they said it accidentally or on purpose. This video demonstrates through cultural diverse situations how much hurt and frustration an unkind word can cause another person.

The video is a short clip which introduces the students to how hateful words affect others. It is nicely produced and is geared towards younger students (K-3). The study guide is a great feature that guides the teacher in decision of what they saw in the video.

This audiocassette is suitable for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. It is a high-energy assortment of multicultural music that will keep the students entertained

This music cassette has the listener travel through different cultures through the music it presents. The music of different cultures are: Puerto Rico (Ambos a dos), Carribbean (Calypso), Ireland (Piper piper), Israel (Zum gali gali), Greece (Children's song), Germany (Hansel & Gretel polka), Spain (Espana cani), Australia (Waltzing Matilda), and India (Daysie). There are also instrumentals from different places. The games and exercises for the rhythm-stick include: Calypso (Caribbean); La Cucaracha (Mexico); Haru Ga Kita (Japan)

This music cassette is great for a multiple intelligence approach to teaching for kindergarten through first grade. The students can move around with the rhythm stick and exercise using the guide book to the music of different cultures. The sound and the energy of this source will definitely keep the students interested.

These folktales are from all over the world and tell tales of their countries.

This is a great source to use when studying folktales in grades 1 through 6. The stories are interesting and the narration is exciting. The sound quality is exceptional.

Sharon Kennedy performs the vocals with instrumental accompaniment She performs: Patchwork quilt, Peddler of tunes, Princess and the sea serpent, Bruja means witch, Jazzy three bears. The stories are based on folktales form around the world in which children are the heros.

This is an excellent source for folktales, storytelling, hero education and recreation. It is lively and interesting. The sound quality is extremely high. It is a great resource for grades 3 through 6.

This video is from the series "Celebrating our differences". It discusses the subject of race with out scientific terminology and uses an approach of cultural appreciation. The aim is to replace student's fear and misunderstanding with facts. The goal is to gain an appreciation of racial diversity.

The quality of this video is high. It is presented by National Geographic Society so it is an authoritative. The 2 teachers manuals are clear and concise, a valuable aide to the video.

This is a large collection of religious videos explaining different religions such as:

Buddhism, Confucianism ,Taosim, Hindusim, Islam , Judaism, and Ancient

religions of the Mediterranean, Native American spirituality, Orthodox and

Roman Catholic Christianity, Protestant Christianity, Shinto, Skepticism &

religious relativism, and last, Religions of small societies. The video allows views to see the similarities and differences among the world's major religions. It also shows the different perspective of many individual cultures. It focuses on the world's history through religion.

This was a great video with many scenic views. I only viewed one video of this series but the quality and the sound where adequate. This series is valuable if you would like to study the different religions in detail.

A terrific musical exploration of different countries. The music takes us to: A rum sum sum (Morocco), Tocan lasmaracas (Spanish), Mango fandango, Fra Michele (Italy), My singing bird (Ireland), Kookaburra (Australia) and many more. It exposes the listener to children are singing in all parts of the world

This is an exceptional source of multicultural music. This is an American Library Association Notable. The sound quality is superb. It is in stereo. This is suitable for children in grades kindergarten through 3rd.

This is a "Life skills video series". The video shows students different multicultural environments in order for them to gain an appreciation of cultural differences. The video is done in a interview format exposing the viewer to different ideas and ethnic backgrounds.

The video is in a format of interviews. I feel that this format will keep the students in the grades 6 through 12 interested in the topic. They will enjoy the people's personal reflections on their cultural background. The sound and video quality is adequate.
