I was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived there 'til I was 5 1/2. I then moved to LaCanada, CA (L.A. area) 'til I was almost 10. I have lived in Kailua, Hawaii since then and I wouldn't live anywhere else but Hawaii. I'm an over 21 single white male, 5'7"" tall @ 130 lbs. I have light (slightly reddish) brown hair & green eyes. I grad from Kailua High School and went to Windward Com. College for 2 yrs (A.A. degree). I was in the U.S. Army for 6 yrs. and was a combat medic & an x-ray tech. I am now a licensed painting contractor and own my own small business (w/ 3 employees). I am a "Yellow-dog" Democrat and am quite interested in politics & follow it closely. I have had several VERY close brushes with death, including being hit by a car when I was 4 (breaking my collar bone). Falling 2 1/2 stories from a tree (and only breaking my left arm in 2 places--luckily).  Slipping while climbing a sheer cliff face about 35-40 above a jagged "aa" lava rock shelf (I slipped about 2 feet down the cliff face when my rock handhold broke off the cliff face, but somehow managed to get a lodgement).  Having a large rock (approx. 20" across) come falling down a 45 degree angle ridge-line trail and fly right between my legs (it was going FAST and I saw it bounce like 5 feet high just in front of me...then it landed inches in front of me and went between my legs).  All modesty aside...I am a very intelligent & well-read person. I am a healthy and active person and consider myself to be a happy & well adjusted.
I LOVE CATS!!!  I also like animals in general. I like water sports, but unfortuneately have contracted "swimmer's ear" and can no longer spend long periods of time in the water. I love hiking & camping and the outdoors in general. I love gardening and landscaping and have grown quite a few--now fully grown--trees. I like building models and am pretty good at it. I collect stamps (kinda "nerdy" I know, but I like it). I'm a big video-game fan and own 30 some-odd games. My favorites are "First Person Shooters"  (particularly James Bond games. Duke Nukem64 is one of my all-time favs) and "flight sims" (Star Wars games & "Aerofighters Assault" in particular). I also have a few misc. games including "The Sims".I love travelling and especially like secluded-lonely places (where you feel like you're the 1st person to be there). I am a big reader of non-fiction. I read some novels, but not too many. Among my favorite authors of fiction are Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, James Blish, I'm a big Edgar Rice Burroughs fan. Among my favorite books are"Starship" by Brian Aldiss, "Cities in Flight (Blish)", The "Foundation & Robot" series (Asimov), The "Known Space" & "Ringworld"  series (Niven), and pretty much all the Burroughs series ("Pellucidar" & the "John Carter/Mars" series in particular. I'm a HUGE movie & TV fan.  I mostly like sitcoms & documentaries on TV. M*A*S*H is my favorite sitcom of all time & I believe...the best of that genre ever made. I'm a big Star Trek fan (the original series the most, but all the others too, except "Deep Space Nine". I like "The Simpsons", "South Park", "The Daily Show", "Conan O'brien", & the new show..."Greg the Bunny", I love "Nova", "Frontline", and the History Channel. I like all kinds of movies all across the board. "Forbidden Planet", "2001", "Ben Hur", "The Wizard of Oz", "Robinson Crusoe on Mars", and "Warlock" (the western w/ Henry Fonda) are among my favorites. I'm a big music fan. I basically like "Pop". I HATE rap/hip hop  or whatever you call it. My favorite group of all-time is The Beatles (love 'em or hate 'em---they were the MOST sensational musical act in history...and the most influential. I also like Joni Mitchell; Emerson, Lake & Palmer; Jimi Hendrix; Elton John; Madonna, Jefferson Airplane, Bruce Hornsby, Celine Dion, Gordon Lightfoot, Blood-Sweat- & Tears, Crosby-Stills-and Nash, 3 Dog Night, and MANY others...the list is too long to mention them all. I'm into many forms of science including astronomy, cosmology and own my own 6" newtonian reflector telescope (thru which I saw "Halley's Comet"). I also like geology, physics & chemistry, and many others. I'm very interested in technology--particularly Air & Space & military technology (especially aircraft & naval vessels). I'm a big history buff. Especially Western, American, British, Roman & ancient history in general. I'm a war buff...particularly the Civil War, WWII (especially the Pacific--for obvious reasons), &Vietnam. Historically, some of the men I most admire are President's Clinton, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Lyndon Baines Johnson, Harry S. Truman, James Knox Polk, Andrew Jackson, George Washington, & John Fitzgerald Kennedy (not necessarily in that order). In the military arena...Gen. George C. Marshall (He is one of the men I most admire...period. And IMO, the greatest general in American history because of his unmatched competence in his job and his epitomization of what an American soldier should be). In Eisenhower's words...he was "dedicated with a most singular selflessness, & the profoundest patriotism twds the service of America". Other men I greatly admire are William Tecuseh Sherman (a true visionary & great strategist & tactician); U.S. Grant for his common sense & leadership; Julius Caesar (for his political acumen & brilliant generalship--particularly the battle of Alesia where he surrounded one army & was in turn surrounded by another army (greatly outnumbered) & defeated both is an accomplishment unsurpassed in history.  Others incl. George Westinghouse &  Otis for their virtually idiot-proof inventions of the airbrake & elevator. J. P. Morgan in the realm of finance & industry--an incredibly shrewd & brilliant man. He had an uncanny knack for knowing what ideas would work & who's time had come. John D. Rockefeller--for almost singlehandedly creating the biggest industry the world has ever known (petroleum) and for creating a company so powerful & with such incredible reach, that at the time (with the exception of armed forces) it was more powerful & richer than any COUNTRY on Earth (incl. the U.S. & the British Empire).  I greatly admire DaVinci, Galileo, Newton, and Einstein for their monumental intelligence and great contributions to human knowledge. I love art and my favorite painter is Rafael. I also like Titian and in the modern category...Escher & Peter Max. I love the sculptural work of Michealangelo & Rodan. I also love architecture and among my favorite structures are the U.S. Capitol, the Pantheon, St. Peter's basillica, the temple of Athena Parthenos (the Parthenon) the (Ionic style) temple of Artemis in Ephasis, Versailles,&  the Summer Palace in St. Petersburg. I admire the work of  Wren, Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, I.M. Pei, and Eero Saarinen.
