Our Family History
On August 9, 1749 Brugt Douwes was born to Geesje Hinderiks and Douwe Brugts Douwes. His birth was registered in the Doopsgezinde Kerk, Groningen, Holland. Brugt Douwes married Janneke Derks on March 21, 1775. They had eleven children. Their youngest son Berend Brugts Douwes married Margien Nicolaas Jacobs and his second marriage was to Catorina Boomgaard. In the year 1853 Berend Brugts Douwes, his wife, three sons and a daughter who was married to Carl Albertus Thepass left Drenthe, Holland for Sumatra, in the Dutch East Indies. Years later our roots are firmly planted in the United States.
