There are new computer viruses out there every day.  I found a GREAT new download the other day (FREE, of course) for finding, eradicating and controlling Viruses that you might pick up out there in cyberworld.  I've found it VERY satisfactory!

Oh, Say It  Ain't SO!
Why do they do it?  Make up stories about phony PC viruses, bogus carjacking schemes and $250 dollar cookie recipes?  Because the CAN and because they think its FUN to trap the gullible.  Next time you get an e-mail that seems too good to be true ... it probably is.  Check it out before you send it on. The best "debunker" I've found:
SoYouWanna.com teaches you how to do all the things nobody taught you in school.  So you wanna ... write a business plan ... convert to Buddhism ... be a sticom writer??? Soyouwanna.com is the place to visit ... Fascinating if you just have a little time to kill.

There is a LOT of stuff to be covered here, so I'll just list a few of the main points and leave others for a later update of this page.

          1.  Hoaxes, Urban Myths and False virus warnings.  When in doubt, check it out (see
www.snopes.com above).  Its not funny, receving the same "remove the teddy bear file from your computer" from 27 close friends.  Don't look stupid - check it out before passing it on.
          2.  Attachments.   Be considerate.  If you have a cartoon that you positively MUSt share with everyone you know, run it through your compression utility ... Photohouse or what not, and get it "down to size" so it doesn't blow everyone's inbox off the map!
          3.  Subject Line.  Its there for a reason.  Use it.  Don’t send messages with blank subjects, these look like viruses.
          4.  Typing in capital letters is the same as shouting. Only use the caps lock key when you want to indicate you’re angry or excited. Never overuse capitals.
          7.  Be careful about what you discuss. E-mail is not private and it could go anywhere on its way to the sender. If you wouldn’t want to see it on the evening news then don’t write it.
Dealing with Computer Freeze up
Sometimes Windows will get itself locked up and there is no choice but to cut the power to your computer and restart (you should wait at least 10 seconds before re-booting).
But before you do something so drastic, try pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del buttons first ... just once.
If you use the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination, you'll find that a box will appear that allows you to choose the offending program from a list and force it to shut down. In fact, it may even have the words "not responding" next to it on this list. Just click the "End Task" button to shut the individual program down. If you get another box a few seconds later asking you to wait or "End Task," choose to End task.
