Located in the North-West corner of Edmonton ,Alberta this abandoned Twin Drive-in Theatre is almost perfectly intact!

We discovered it on a rainy day in August of 2000 ,only couple of years after it was closed down...

as the sign indicates , it is only

CLOSED FOR THE SEASON !?!

We passed through the gates to check out the two lots ...one facing northwest...

...and the other facing south-west...

The projection building was a 2 story complex with the projector located on the upper floor & a large snack bar on the main floor .Vandals had also visited the area before us & left the boarded up building opened up & debris scattered all over the area ! One of the really interesting features of the theatre was the speaker poles ,equipped with ground wires to attach to your car for better radio sound & power boxes to facilitate the 220 volt car heaters that were made available during the cold Edmonton winter!

I find it sad to think that there are monuments to the movie industry like this standing empty ,undoubtedly victims of the increase in home entertainment & in competition with all the other attractions that are only available during the short northern summer ! It's also noteworthy that in Edmonton a Drive-In would not be able to start up until well after 11:00 pm during the peak season because of the short nights !
