GLEESON
                     GLEESON
The town of Turquiose was founded in 1880's at the south end of the Dragoon Mountains. In 1890 it received its post office. Then in 1894, Jimmie Pearce found gold 11 miles north (see Pearce).  The town was abandoned and the post office and mines closed.
Then in 1900,an Irish miner from Pearce, named John Gleeson, was prospecting in  the Turquiose area and found promising copper deposits.  A town again sprung up.  Now the town was moved to the base of the hills, closer to a reliable water source.  The post office was reopened as Gleeson in 1900. Copper production continued until the end of WW1, when the demand went down.  The mines soon closed and the post office finally closed in 1939.
Gleeson has amny great buildings to see.  There is a hospital, store, saloon/store, jail, school, and many other adobes. The Gleeson cemetary is west on Gleeson Road about a mile.
