GOLDFIELD | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Goldfield was at the base of the Superstition Mountains. Low grade gold ore was found here in 1892. By 1893, the town of Goldfield had sprung up. By 1897, the gold was gone, and Goldfield was soon to become a ghost. Then in the early 1900's, a man by the name of George U. Young brought in some new mining methods to recover more ore. The town was alive again, but now as Youngsberg. This lasted a short time and town was again a ghost. Today, only a sign marks the spot where Goldfield was. But a sort of tourist attraction (named Goldfield) of a mining era type town has taken its place under the name of Goldfield. |
