SASCO Sasco served as a smelting town for the nearby mines in Silverbell. Sasco supported only about 600 people in its heyday. It had a post office from 1907 to 1919. DIRECTIONS To get to Sasco, take exit 226 on I-10. Head west on Sasco road for about 7 miles. you will cross the usually dry Santa Cruz River. When I went it had rained the day before and water was running slowly over the road a few inches deep. It was no problem with my pickup. Sasco sits on a minor dirt road that heads north from Sasco Road (just west of La Osa Ranch Road). Follow the road to the Rockland Hotel, jail, then the smelter ruins. If you would continue on a little further on Sasco Road (about 1/4 mile) a minor road to the south (left) goes to the powderhouse and some more foundations. If you take La Osa Ranch Road north, you can get to the old Sasco cemetary. It is about a half mile from this intersection |
