ACME & MINERAL HILL | ||||||||||||
ACME Acme is located about 8 to 10 miles north of Sheridan on I-25. It is on the east side of the Interstate. It was a mining town. there is still a working coal mine nearby. Today, there are still remains of a mill, a bridge and many foundations. When many of the mines closed down, the people moved back to Sheridan. They took their houses with them, leaving behind many foundations. |

MINERAL HILL Mineral Hill is located in Crook County. It is a half mile southwest of Welcome on private property. It is said to be one of the best ghost towns of the Black Hills area. There is still a mill here that occasionally operates. Also remaining are about a half a dozen mine buildings on the east side of Spotted Tail Creek. On the west side of the creek are about ten more houses a little bit higher up. The town is completely deserted. |
