In Loving Memory of Bret Walker Fuit September 12, 1959 - October 1, 1985
This is a lovely gift for Bret's family from my dear friend, Susie, mom to Angel Jason. She also added Bret's face to the male angel further down on this web page. She said that she couldn't help herself, that the hair was a perfect match...
This is Bret at a younger age, but I don't know how old he was here.
Bret's Story
Bret was the man of the family since our parents divorced and after our father committed suicide.
He was the boy in between an older sister and a younger sister. But he was always our protector. He never once questioned having to defend us or care for us and handle all the man things around the house.
The three Fuit kids -
Debbie, Bret and Sandee. Even though he was always in the middle, Bret was always our protector and the man in our lives.
Bret began his life on a farm and wanted to be a farmer so bad. Our grandfather said to get a good education and do something with his life as farming was becoming too commercial and he could not make a good living at it anymore.
He then began welding and working on cars and just being a beach bum. That is what he really wanted to be a "beach bum". He loved the ocean and loved surfing. I never see the ocean that I don't say "Hey Bro Surf's Up".
He loved to skate board before it was a cool thing to do and also partying on the beach.
I remember when I had my son Christopher, I called Bret, and he was so excited that I had a boy, he was no longer the only one. He let out a big holler when I told him that I was naming my son after him. Christopher Bret just really had a good ring to it.
Bret was not only a great brother, he was a great son. We always teased him that he was moms favorite (we still believe that today) and he would just say you just need to understand mom and agree with whatever she says. He always knew how to smooth things over.
He told mom that he was going to stay living with her until he was 40. Sadly he was murdered shortly after turning 26. It shattered our family. It brought so much anger hurt and bitterness to our family. I know he would see it differently and I try hard to be as compassionate as I know he would be.
He was a super uncle. He was the only man in my sons lives, and he taught them boy things.
From sports, surfing, fishing and even tips on picking up girls. He would pile them all with his friends in this old white van and off they would go surfing fishing or picking up girls. He said the boys were a great chick magnet.
When my son was killed he hocked his car to get the money to come up and be with me. He would say, "Why Chris and not me. I haven't done much with my life and he had his whole life ahead of him." It broke my heart to see the pain in Bret and not being able to do anything about it.
Bret had problems in his life but it never caused him not to love his family and to be kind and compassionate to his fellow human beings.
In the end being kind cost him his life. Two young men took it upon themselves to murder my brother after he had stopped in front of his home to tell them to get that a neighbor had already called the cops on them. they said they would leave and come back and kill him. He didn't really think it would happen. But a short while later as he was leaving to meet friends they both returned and shot him in our sisters car in front of their home.
Ironically four months and ten days before Bret was murdered is when my son was killed. As we stood on the beach where Bret had taught my boys to surf and spread Chris's ashes he told our mother that he was going to die early and this is where he would like his ashes spread. The boys are together forever now and that is our only comfort.
Bret Walker Fuit, age 5
It has always been a joke in the family that if there isn't Budwieser Beer in heaven then Bret wasn't going:
So Bro surfs up and have a cold one for me!
You are loved and missed horribly but thank you for watching over my son until I can join you both. I miss you so much. I know that you are there with my angel Chris and that brings so much comfort to me.
Your older sister,
Debbie
My brother Bret and I. I was the big sister and he was always my hero. My friend and true brother even though he was younger he always seemed like a big brother to me.

REMEMBER ME
I never meant to leave you,
Could I have only stayed,
We would be going on in life,
With all the plans we made.
Now all the hopes and dreams we shared,
Are but sweet memories;
For you to tuck inside your heart,
Now when you remember me.
Remember all the good times,
And all the joy we shared.
Remember how you touched my life,
And how I really cared.
Think back on all the laughter,
And wipe away the tears,
You still have many miles to go,
And will have many years.
Don't look back... look forward,
This day is a brand new one,
And as you travel on in life,
You'll take a bit of my heart.
I never meant to leave you,
But still your not alone
For as long as my love lives in you,
I'll near really be gone.

LIGHT A CANDLE
And I will light a candle for you
to shadow all the darkness and bless the times we knew
Like a beacon in the night the flame will burn bright
and guide us on our way
Oh today I light a candle for you.
Seasons come and go and I'm weary from the change
Keep on moving on -- you know it's not the same
And when I'm walking all alone
Do you hear me call your name?
Do you hear me sing the songs we used to sing?
And I will light a candle for you...
You filled my life with wonder -- touched me with surprise
Always saw that something special deep within your eyes
And through the good times and the bad
We carried on with pride
I hold on to the love and life we knew
And I will light a candle for you...
Oh today I light a candle for you.
Dear Bret
What a wonderful young man you were growing up, taking over the role of the man in the house, it takes a very special person to do that.
You're family were so very proud of you, reading through your site and what you did, I am very proud of you too.
REST IN PEACE BRET
MUCH LOVE
