Boy Scout Troop 169

Our scout troop at Erie Ordnance Depot, at our first camporee, July 1960.  Dad was Scoutmaster - that's him standing on the rope bridge.  I'm kneeling by the scout troop flag.

As I understand it, these rope bridges tend to be quite popular now-days at the camporees -- this was the very first one.  Dad wanted to have something "different" to hallmark our troop during the camporee, seeing as it was our first major outing (brand new troop, less than 6 months old).  He sure succeeded!  On an average day (7-day camp) we put 200+ people across that bridge.  As a matter of fact, it was the main reason that NONE of us managed to work on merit badges, or anything else.
Not great pictures, but it sure was a great car.  This was my first car, a 1962 Opel Olympia stationwagon.  Had a 4-cylinder engine that put out a whopping 52 hp, 3-speed on the column, and could almost make it to 75 mph (would you believe 65?).  among its features was an AM radio (no stereo back then), vacuum-powered wipers, compressed air powered washers, and a 10 gal. gas tank that could run me for almost 350 miles.  No power anywhere - as a matter of fact, it was 6-volt, not like today's 12-volt systems.

Pic' on bottom is me going to my Senior Prom, June 1966.
This is it!  The first family picture of me in uniform.  Taken in late April 1968 in my grandmother's back yard in Toledo.  Jeff's on the left, then Grandma Clark, me, Mom and Doug.
Keep goin', y'all.  With the guided tour we're gettin' to the historic family pics now - I'm sure you'll enjoy this.
