Gun Control

"We need more laws to control the proliferation of guns in public"

"We need to control access to guns by minors"

"We need to control access to guns by criminals"

"We need to control access to guns ..."

What Rot!

The simple fact of the matter is: when you take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, only criminals will have guns.

Criminals come in many forms.

There's the guy that robs you on the street, in the bank, where-ever.

There's the guy that breaks into your house in the middle of the night, wearing the uniform of our nation, to kidnap you or your children at gunpoint (just ask Elian Gonzales).

There's the guy in a black or grey suit, working for the government, that terrorizes your family "for the good of the country" (ask David Foresh).
Don't get me wrong - I don't even own a gun.  It's not that I don't need one, under normal circumstances I don't think I do.  However, I believe in the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of The United States of America.  I believe there's meaning in the few words of that amendment that are CRUCIAL to our continued well-being.  I've collected a few pages here that might help back up that claim.

Hypocrisy and Elitism

The Dirty Little Secret of the Gun Lobby

OK, I'll grant you that the very first article is there - as the first article - for shock value, as much as anything else.  However, you'll grant me that there isn't a word of untruth in it.  Besides, one or the other had to be first.

Now, the point of this little study.  Everything I've found from history, especially from the actual founders of this country, says that the average citizen of the United States has the right and even the DUTY to own, maintain and carry weapons - without limit as to type, without limit as to numbers.  Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the constitution, owned an arsenal.  James Madison, who wrote the Bill of Rights (first 10 amendments to the constitution) owned an arsenal.  Would these people write a document limiting their own rights?  It's ludicrous!

Today's society (the elitists, the leftists, socialists, media, the whole crowd) wants us to limit our arms so THEY can have more unbridled control of our lives.  Remember history, if nothing else.  Every society that has given up their arms has ultimately paid the price.
The
NRA

Now, there's a dirty word - according to liberals.  The
National Rifle Association, for all its troubles and faults, is the SINGLE organization in this country willing and able to help protect our rights under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.  I only wish there were other organizations devoted to each of the other 9 amendments - I'd join each of them too.

I'm a member of the NRA and proud of it.  I believe that every citizen of the U.S. that supports the Constitution should be a member of the NRA.  I haven't been a member for very long - matter of fact, it was a broadcast by Charlton Heston that convinced me I needed to join in the first place.  I became a member of the "Silver Bullet Brigade", not very long before the 2000 elections.

Remember, I don't even own a gun!  My main association with guns is in my 22-year military career, a life-long history of service to country - another thing I'm proud of.  Now, the single thought in the broadcast that convinced me that joining was the proper thing to do was the thought that "here is the one organization with power that supports the same thing I do, freedom and liberty - as they were supposed to be in the first place."  My Air Force career was my active participation in maintaining that freedom, from other governments.  My membership in the NRA is my active participation in maintaining that freedom, from our own governmental abuses against us.

If I was ever to have a complaint against the NRA, it would be that they don't do enough to advertise/promote the facts and history of the Second Amendment.  The press is full of the garbage I referred to at the top of this page, various other lobbying efforts are full of more of the same.  Even the Congress has been swayed by this veritable deluge of trash.  The NRA needs to "shout above the crowd", so to speak, and keep the true meaning of the Second Amendment at the forefront.  To that end, I believe I'm doing a small part in advocating just this by membership in the web-ring shown below:
