America Under Attack!
As I begin this page, several days after the first attacks, I am still appalled!
My country has been viciously, stealthily, inhumanly ATTACKED!
I'm more angry right now than I have ever been before. My words here will probably reflect that. Therefore, before I begin any thoughts at all on the subject I'd like to pass on a little "factoid"; I'm an American citizen, a veteran of the US military and I could be thought of almost as a patriotic fanatic. So, if you want to disagree with ANYTHING about America I cordially invite you to go elsewhere on the web. You're not welcome here.
Now, that's taken care of. With any luck, the traitors and would-be traitors are gone.
You might had noticed that just above this, below the fabulous graphic that a very dear lady allowed me to include on this page, I said "...after the first attacks..." -- today's date is 16 September 2001. I firmly believe 11 September was only the opening shots of what is going to turn into a kind of war this world has never seen before. We must be totally committed here, we must stand resolute! The war that is just now starting will be a guerilla war that will span the whole world. Our task in all this is going to be terrible in its scope, and will require something Americans have rarely, if ever, had to face - the intentional total destruction of a way of life. Before we fire the first shot in retalliation, we must understand this.
Be assured, Osama bin Ladin - the assumed perpetrator of this outrage - is calling for "Jihad". His people will observe "Jihad" and we must understand what it means. The most common English translation of Jihad is "Holy War". That, however, only tells a very small part of what the term really means. Jihad is "death". There are no prisoners of war in Jihad, there are no innocents. The winner (if there can really be one) of Jihad is he who survives, and only one side can survive. As long as there is just ONE observer/follower/soldier of Jihad, it continues. Therefore, we must be ready to completely obliterate the enemy - or he will obliterate us. This isn't war against a civilized people, this is Jihad.
We can look at it another way too, one in which Americans might be more able to understand. Rabies is a disease with no cure. An animal with rabies must be destroyed. Terrorism is a disease with no cure. The animal (and these are animals) with this disease must be destroyed.
My heart goes out to all those innocent people (by our standards) that will be hurt in all this. Many fine people, people of many races, people of many faiths, people of many cultures, are going to feel the wrath of the United States of America. Those people, especially those of Arabic heritage, have my most heartfelt sympathy. I don't hate any Arab for being an Arab. That would be as criminal and wrong as any other hate. My wrath is reserved for the animals that would see our civilization destroyed. Actually, I don't even hate them - I just understand that they must be destroyed in order to bring peace and freedom to the rest of mankind.
For more than 50 years we (America) have talked to these animals in the language of high moral value, the language of high ideals - and they simply didn't understand. Now we must talk to them in the language they DO understand, the language of total destruction, the language of war! It's obvious to me that they really do understand this language. In the past couple days, Hussein has all but gotten on his knees to plead for restraint, bin Laden has tried to flee justice, even Pakistan has agreed to go along with us in the face of bin Laden's threats. Yes, they understand this language - at least well enough to understand that he can't destroy them, while WE CAN, AND WILL!
