Ancient Viking Prayer . |
|||||||||
This is a rather neat little prayer that Viking warriors recited as they were going into battle. This prayer has absolutely nothing to do with modern life, in any way, but it's a good reflection on where a bit of our society came from - from a time of extreme violence, but also a time of extreme love. |

Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. Lo, there do I see the line of my people, Back to the beginning! Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla! Where the brave may live Forever! . |

Your ancient religion lesson for today. This prayer was shared by a friend of Norwegean/Viking heritage - it's interesting and demonstrates their philosophy toward life (and death) quite nicely, so - as a history lesson - I pass it on to you. NOTE: I've learned that it also appears in the movie "13th Warrior". Kinda neat that such an ancient thing still lives. . |
