Arizona Title

Horses have been a part of this family for quite a few years, but there have been no living horses in our family until very recently.

Arizona's the first!
.

Who knows?  There might eventually be an entire herd of horses in our future, but this lady's always going to be #1.
.

The first real, live horse in the family is Arizona; that's Holly's beautiful (not so little - 15 hands, or about 5 feet high at the shoulder [withers]) 20-year old mare who's about to have a baby - probably in March of 2002.
(UPDATE below)

Arizona's a 20-year old quarterhorse mare, and mother of many - as far as we can determine.

She's about to have her last baby - the pregnancy was started by her previous owner.  Personally, I think she's a bit old to be having little ones anymore.

Anyway, she's a good-natured lady - which is a very good thing.  I don't think all of us, combined, know enough to be able to really work with her all that well.  We're all novices at this sort of thing and it really helps to have a horse that already knows the score.

The top picture, and all the rest, of Arizona were taken in our back yard just after Holly bought her about 6 weeks ago.

Holly & Arizona
Are these "pictures of happiness" or what?

I'm really not sure who's happier - Holly because it's her horse, or Susan because it's Holly's horse.

Doesn't matter!

These are two very happy ladies!

UPDATE:  16 March 2002 -- The baby has arrived!  Boy, how much things have changed since this page was first published!  We're now a 5 horse family!  The baby, a Paint colt named Cherokee Sunrise, was born at 2:15AM on Saturday March 16th 2002.  Just click on the link below to take a look-see at this beautiful little addition to the family.

UPDATE of the update: 27 May 2002 - Well, we're no longer a 5 horse family, we're now a 6 horse family.  See Old Blackie's pages.

28 December 2003 - So much has changed in so little time.  With Blackie's passing on the last day of winter 2003 we went back to 5 horses, then Dakota joined us a couple months later so we're back to 6 again.  Take a look-see at her pages, she's special.

12 January 2006 - Haven't had a whole lot of time to write in Arizona's pages this past summer.  However, Holly rode her most of the summer/fall and her legs have improved radically.  She'll never again be a true trail horse, but for 30-45 minutes at a time she does just fine.
