The Other Friend . |
|||||||||||||
I met a whimsical woman years ago who captivated me. From the moment I met her I wanted to be around her. She was beautiful, fun, and had an incredibly caring soul. Months went by and the woman and I laughed and carried on. But one day someone else arrived. This "someone" was one I could not compete with. He was a close friend from home. And I knew from the moment he arrived that he held a special place in her heart. His name was Amos. I will never forget the first time I met him. He was tall, dark and handsome. He put on a tough act, But if you looked into his eyes you could see him for what he was. A sweetheart and a Momma's Boy How could I compete with that? The woman was very busy after Amos arrived. She worked twice as hard as everyone else to take care of him. Every day when I'd come home from school she'd be out with that Amos! I began to become jealous of the other friend, What made him so great? So I decided one day to find out for myself, I went out with the woman to visit this "Famous Amos". We drove what felt like a long way until we reached Amos' home. When we arrived I thought I knew why she came out so much. Amos lived outside the city, away from all the lights and streets. His home was on top of a hill with a backdrop of mountains, It was beautiful. But I quickly realized that it was not the scenery that compelled my friend to come. I watched the woman and Amos as they walked up to one another, And even from over a fence and across the field - I saw their connection. I could see on both of their faces, This moment was what they looked forward to all day. I knew that I could never beat that other friend, The woman would always love him more. But I was no longer jealous because, I finally understood the bond between a person and their horse. . |
