To Go Quietly Into The Night . |
||||||||
As I sit in your stall with you on this final night, I can't help but cry and hold you tight. The vet is coming, and he knows what has to be done. We arranged it so that it would be late at night. The stars are shining and the moon is bright. The forest calls with long shadows that beckon for one final ride. I can only sit here with your head in my lap, Thinking of times gone past, And the rides we hoped that would last and last. The streams that we crossed, the puddles that we jumped, Never mind the mud that we always found. The mountains that we climbed, the trails that seemed to never end. But now all I can do is hold you tight, It's not fair of me to ask you to hold on for just one more day, You have already done that so many times. And the vet has pulled up to the barn, When he enters the stall, I can see he suffers just as much as me, I may be the owner, But this horse he knows by name, and calls him a friend. Now the time has come; there's no turning back, The hands of time won't stand still, The goodbyes are short and painful, Yes, I know what has to be done, this friend and companion, Has To Go Quietly Into The Night. . |
