Because He Depends On Me . |
|||||||
I rise at five in the morning, Because he depends on me. At five thirty when I arrive at the barn, he gets his medicine, Because he depends on me. At six in the morning he gets fed his hay and grain, Because he depends on me. At seven in the morning he drags me out of his stall, ready to take on a new day, Because he depends on me. I lead him to his pasture paddock, rub his forehead and turn him loose once again, Because he depends on me. At seven thirty in the morning I clean his stall, get fresh water and hay for the night time, Because he depends on me. When the farrier comes to shoe him and I get the bill for $135.00 for four shoes, It gets done, Because he depends on me. Later in the afternoon, when I go to get him, I see him standing there waiting for me, Pawing at the gate and making a general fuss because I'm not fast enough. It all gets done, Because he depends on me. After a long grooming session and a work-out on the long line he gets his medicine again, Because he depends on me. And as the days turn into years and we ride together as one, I learned to quietly listen to his whispers on the wind. Because he depends on me. And in the end, when all is said and done and he looks at me with fading eyes, I'll whisper in his ear of all my love through the years. I'll slowly nod my head to the vet to turn him loose from pain and suffering, And I'll remember... He depends on me. . |
