If you are an expert at creating webpages, this is not for you. But if you have never given it a try, you should keep reading.
Although I have always loved my colleagues webpages, I had never tried to build my own. When I started our Webheads sessions, I decided this was the time for it.
I went to Front Page 2000, because it came with my Office 2000, and went to help because I did not have the slightest idea of its use. The insctructions are very easy to follow, and there are some templates that are very helpful. After many trials and errors I finished my first page. But I did not know how to get it on the web. That' s when I decided to check Geocities. I went to www.oocities.org and there I had the ad offering free webpages. After you register, you are send a page with all the information. You can select from three editors: the page wizzard, for real beginners like myself, page builder that allows for edition and the advance html editor. Guess what, I started with page wizzard, it is a Wysiwyg editor, in3 steps you have a webpage. It consists of forms that you fill in with the required information. This is a little bit more elaborate than the one Vance mentioned in our list. After I finished that page I wanted to try something else. So, I went to Page builder and followed the tutorial. Then, I had another new page, and had learned the basics for using the editors.
At this time, I was so engaged with my work that I decided to bring my the page I had in Front Page here. To do that I used the File manager provided by Geocities. I moved my files there and opened the page on Page builder. After that, I edited all the pages I had built and linked them. Next I will try the html advance editor, but first I want to finish all the pages I have started.
Once my site was more or less "visible" I invited Sus to take a look at it, and we had a nice evaluation session at my office in Tapped In. I will talk about that in another entry. I will also mention the advantages and disadvantages of Front Page and Page builder.
I want to conclude this entry saying that it is very easy to build a webpage with these editors. It is time consuming, though.
I know my pages are not very professional, but I think they are a good start for a newbie like me.
What's awful about geocities are the ads.
