Comments on Rubrics found Online

I have been using rubrics to evaluate my students'work for some time now. Below, I have written my comments about some websites where teachers can create their rubrics. I have tried them all and this is what I think. I hope my comments can help other teachers interested in rubrics.

I have it used to teach teachers how to create rubrics. What I like about it is that you can edit the content,
and from there teachers can start creating their own. If you are satisfied with the ones they provide, or your own adaptations, you can have a file there with all your rubrics and go back there to make changes, print or save to your PC.

A great rubric to assess interaction in distance courses. /made by Roblyer & Ekhaml  (2000)

Rubric generators "will allow you to make grading rubrics by filling out a simple form. The materials are made instantly and can be printed directly from your computer. Your creations are exclusive to you. If you would like to keep your creations, save them when you make them." <- from the website>

It is kind of limited because even though they
have a great variety of ready-made rubrics, they cannot be adapted to your needs, and the general rubrics generator, is also limited, because
once you have generated your own rubric, it is impossible to go back for modifications, you need to start all over again. Anyway, I created
one for chats.

“There are rubrics for many different activities, but they're not laid out in tables. However, I think the contents of several of them may give you useful ideas” <Teresa>

These are  not real rubrics. It is not only that they are not laid out in tables. These are statements to be ranked with a Likert scale. No criteria is established for the different levels of achievement. Some of the statements are a good start for performance objectives, though.

Downloadable software

The site for rubrics downloads is very good. I downloaded one of the applications, and it looks very complete. It has ready-made rubrics
for all areas of the curriculum (even PE) that you can modify to your
needs, or create new ones. You are able to design a whole lesson or unit with this software. They also have checklists. I am in the process of exploration. They only give 14 days for free-trial. That's the down side :-(
