Previous offenders who seem to have the least problems with housing are those who live with family or friends. While finding housing is often difficult for "registered" ex-offenders the local churches can be a good source for housing (keeping in mind that clergy should know your history so appropriate housing can be located). Another thought, in an emergency the Salvation Army, local homeless shelters, or Community Action agencies often are helpful if they know your circumstances. Be mindful that, many shelters will exclude sex offenders if they also house families or children. Housing Application Denials: We have received stories that some public subsidized housing complexes have been denying "registered sex offenders" on the grounds that such a person poses a danger to their other residents, and its the law!
