Information
Earlswood is a massive 25-acre lake which is complete with 105 pegs, which 80 are built from large wooden platforms which are well equipped with clamps to position your banksticks and umbrella's and also offer a lot of room for you tackle and luggage.
The carp have grown quickly and average around 2lbs when the lake was first stocked, this resulted in massive match weights in 2000 when the Engine Pool was stocked with the small carp this created the UK Five-hour match record of a amazing 414lbs 14ozs caught by Steve Gregory. Most of the carp which are all Mirrors average from 4lb and can run to around 9lbs.
The catches were Ridiculous in 2000 so British waterways had to alter the rules in 2001 to provide protection for the fish as as anglers were catching the carp on a pole with very high elastics or sometime none at all which resulted in the anglers swinging the fish in by hand. The new rules have reduced match weights to sensible levels of around 200lbs which is still very high although more common weights are now between 50lbs and 120lbs.Pleasure anglers regularly catch over 100lbs and the fishery is has been recognized for it's crazy weights.
The most popular pegs are between 5 and 25 near the new car park the other bank also seems popular and pegs between 60 and 80 by the council houses. Hot peg include number 10 and number 2 at the start of the lake.
Their is a variety of fish to be caught including the odd bream or skimmer as when the lake was netted all of the bream didn't get caught so their are still a few roaming but it is still a novelty to catch one. Roach and Perch can also be caught close in on waggler or pole tactics.
Using the Method feeder with paste on the hook is very popular throughout the year also using the feeder and pole are also popular when the lakes water levels have fallen.
Anglers take a variety of baits including maggot, casters, sweetcorn, paste, meat, pellet, cat meat and the odd worm. I had great success using mini bollies hair rigged on a size 12 hook with a Method feeder. The bans at Earlswood are size 12 hook limit only, along with barbless hooks and keepnets only allowed in matches.Anglers using the Method in conjunction with the pole is disallowed set with the new rules and all fish must be landed using a landing net and the larger fish should be placed on a unhooking mat.

Maggots, Meat, Corn, Paste and Bread.
