Dwayne made the move into professional wrestling after an injury ended his American football career. Dwayne played football in college and professionally and was a member of Miami's NCAA National Championship team in 1990.
Dwayne Joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1996 where he received guidance and training from Bret "The Hitman" Hart; and became the youngest Intercontinental Champion in WWF history when he was 24. However this record was broken when 23 year old Jeff Hardy won the title from him in April 2001. During his time with the WWF he has gone through several professional name changes. He first used the name 'Rocky Miavia' as a tribute to his father (Rocky Johnson) and his grandfather (Chief Miavia), before deciding on his present stage name 'The Rock'.
As the Rock Dwayne has been 2-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, 3-time World Wrestling Federation Champion and World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champion (with Mankind in "The Rock 'n Sock Connection"). He is also the only 6-time WWF champion. The Rock was the first person to ever kick out of the "Stone Cold Stunner" while fighting Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania XV. In real life, Dwayne is good friends with the Dudley Boyz and his on-screen enemy Shane McMahon.
The Rock has said that his favourite eyebrow trademark (not including his own) is Groucho Marx's.
In a 2000 episode of NBC's "Saturday Night Live", Dwayne proved his acting and singing abilities by performing in various skits throughout the show, including playing opposite Chris Kattan as the long-lost father of Kattan's "Mr. Peepers", and wearing a dress, lipstick and a wig playing opposite "The Ladies Man". He also performed an acapella version of Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight" with background vocals provided by Paul "Big Show" Wight and Mick "Mankind" Foley.
Dwayne almost got the lead role in the coming movie "The One". A thriller about a cop who has to fight his "twin" from an evil dimension. The role fell in the hands of Jet Li instead. But despite this set back to his acting career Dwayne managed to grab the high profile role of the Scorpion King in the movie The Mummy returns (2001), which led to the staring role in the movie The Scorpion King (2002) for which he picked up a $5,500,000 pay cheque.
