Some Notable Alphamen (of many)
Alpha Phi Alpha is the first Afro-American intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity founded.  It was founded on December 4, 1906 by a group of men who were students at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.  These men founded the group out of the need to "maintain more intimate contact than their classroom study permitted."

Our founders, "The Seven Jewels" are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy.

What started as a study group is now an international organization that has initiated over 175,000 brothers.  Currently there are approximately 353 college chapters and 339 alumni chapters in 45 states, including the District of Columbia.  There are also chapters in the West Indies, Europe, Africa, Asia, Canada and the Virgin Islands.

The fraternity is currently headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland and boasts some of the most well-known figures in modern times.
