Speech Therapy is currently on hiatus. Speech Therapy: A History Established in November 2005, Speech Therapy aimed to publish poetry that will promote the talents of new and established writers from the North of Ireland. It was envisoned that the magazine would be used as a platform for writers to allow their work to reach the wider audience that it merits. Speech Therapy sought poetry that is clear in its purpose and non-abstract in meaning; poetry that has been formed from all walks of life; poetry that projects a voice. Welcoming poetry from people just starting on their pathway to becoming published poets, I felt that it was important to provide a platform of expression to emerging talent, as well as concentrating on displaying unique and powerful poetry. Therefore, we welcomed first time writers as well as more experienced poets. It didn't matter to us if you had won a major award, or had been recently published elsewhere. We only cared about giving a voice to top quality poetry, work that will be appreciated by our readers. If it's clever, unique, emotive and evoking, we wanted to publish it! After four issues of fine writing, Speech Therapy is now on hiatus. As a one-man project, gathering and editing poems, formatting, proof-reading (ok, I missed a few errors along the way!), printing and distributing the journal was a lot of work. However, I am very pleased that poets could share the experience of seeing their work in print and reaching new readers. There may be an Issue Five down the line, or Speech Therapy could relaunch under a new guise or format. In the meantime, I want to thank all the poets who contributed to each issue, and the many wonderful friends that helped to spread the word about the mag. It was a great time meeting many poets and talented folk, and I hope again one day to start it all over again. Regards, Colin Dardis Editor.
