THE UNSTOPPABLE MICHAEL LARSEN |
Here he is, the Terminator himself... Michael Larsen! |
Peter was in so much shock he could hardly stand to watch much of the game! |
Another shot of Mikey applauding himself for a job well done. |
Once upon a time, waaaay back in 1984, there was once a man who competed on Press Your Luck. He showed how much you could win if you just paid attention and had patience. Michael Larsen was an unemployed ice cream truck driver at the time. When he wasn't driving trucks, he had a load of free time on his hands. One day he was flipping through the channels and just so happened to find Press Your Luck. He was enchanted by the game and taped every further episode religiously. By doing this, he uncovered a GIGANTIC secret. He found that the seemingly-random light that bounced around the board was hardly random at all. The light actually moved in 1 of 6 patterns. By pausing the tapes and memorizing the patterns, Mikey found that he could stop the board whenever and wherever he wanted. Armed with this knowledge, borrowed airfare to L.A., and a 65 cent thrift store suit, Michael tried out for the show and was booked. The lead contestant coordinator and the producers argued about whether Michael should be on the show; the coordinator sensed something "off" with him. But the producers got the upper hand, and Mikey was allowed to play. Mikey was playing against champion Ed, a baptist minister, and challenger Janie, a dental assistant. Mikey netted 3 spins in the first question round, and then played it real cool in Round 1. He even hit a Whammy on his first spin! However, his next 2 spins netted him $1250 each. But his $2500 total stuck him in last place, and the producers had to be saying "Told ya so" to the coordinator. |
What's he smiling for? I guess he knows it's only up from here! |
HOWEVER, the 7 spins Mikey netted in Question Round Two allowed him to go to town. Larsen mainly concentrated on 2 squares: Squares 4 and 8. Square 4 had $3000, $4000, and $5000, all with extra spins, and 8 had $500, $750, and $1000, all with spins. Mikey, having the ability to go first, quickly racked up over $10000. At the $18000 mark, Mikey's spin was designated Home Player spin, a sort of scam enticing veiwers to watch. I've never seen this episode for myself, so I don't exactly know what he won and who he won it for, but I'm pretty sure it was something in square 4 or 8. At this point, Peter remarked "Michael is on a roll!" |
Peter begged and begged for Mikey to pass, thinking he would hit a Whammy and be heartbroken. |
Soon Mikey passed the $25000 point, which is the mark where any halfway sane person would have passed. But he just kept on going, soon passing the $30000 mark. When he hit the $36000 mark, the game had run waaaaay too long, and was post edited to a second half. Here this maniac was, spinning and spinning to the point where the show had to get off the air... and his opponents had yet to even touch their buzzers. |
Folks, we're nowhere near ending this. Tune in tomorrow! Ed looks like the Apocolypse has come! |
