PART 2 |
By this point the second part had begun, and Mikey had racked up a score to heights unseen. However, around the $70000 point, Mikey began to get an itchy trigger finger, sometimes stopping too early or too late. If he was off cycle by even one square, he could end up unintentionally hitting a Whammy and losing all that hard earned money. But luckily, Mikey kept his cool and landed on prizes and smaller amounts instead. When he hit the $100000 mark, he passed his remaining 4 spins to Ed and stood up in triumph. The crowd was so astonished that they gave him a standing ovation. Ed, having over $96000 to catch up, knew these spins were hopeless, and a Whammy ultimately ended his turn. |
Heaven must not be with him today... |
It was now Janie's turn to use her 7 spins, and she racked up $8000 in cash and prizes. With 3 spins left and a gigantic difference between her and Mikey, she realized her only shot at winning was to pass her spins to the maniac, which she did. |
I bet she was ready to jab Mikey with one of her dental tools! |
Mikey hit for cash and a spin with the first two spins, but the third was different. On the third spin, Mikey, going for Square 8, stopped one square too early and landed on...... a Trip to the Bahamas (With that money he could BUY the Bahamas, Peter had said). What he didn't notice was that the square had changed from $700 + One Spin. The other square? The Whammy. After all that, Michael nearly lost over $100000. He then passed his 2 spins back to Janie, who hit a Whammy and left Mikey the only one who won anything that day. The final result? $110237! He lied in a post game interview when asked why he continued spinning after $30000. He said "One, it just felt right, and two, I had 7 spins and I thought somebody could do what I did" A lousy reasoning, but it passed for the taping. |
Here he is one more time... with a total equivalent to that of a million today. |
The producers tried in vain to disqualify him, but Mikey hadn't done anything illegal; he just simply paid attention. If Mikey wouldn't have started to falter, he could have spun on and on forever, winning millions of dollars and making that game have a part 3, 4, 5, and so on. Even though Mikey did get to keep all his money, he was not allowed to return as a champion. Mikey's reign of terror constituted a $25000 limit in one day, and a $75000 limit for a contestant's champion run. 16 new patterns were added, and the coordinators noticed that the people watching at home had also picked up the patterns. But they hadn't counted on 16 other ones, and were heartbroken when they couldn't break the bank. There's a sad ending to this. After all that, the Whammy got Mikey in a bad investment deal, causing him to lose all that hard earned money. :( These episodes were forever banned from ever airing again, but who knows? Maybe GSN will eventually be able to run the show for the first time in 18 years? Mikey was featured in several interviews, including one on TV Guide and another on Good Morning America, both comparing Mikey's LEGAL genius to the intimate rigging that involved 21 contestant Charles Van Doren. Mikey's story will be further immortalized very soon, in which Bill Murray will play the genius contestant in a movie about the entire thing. And the coordinator vs. producer debate? I guess Michael wasn't the only one with the last laugh here.... |
