My early education was at San Jose State University and later my art and design studies were at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Although my education was in industrial design and I have worked as a product designer for thirty-five years, I have used acrylic and watercolor media professionally and as a painter for almost as long.
Managing my own design business gave me time to teach in Essen, Germany with a Fulbright Grant, San Jose State University and Stanford University. I have been represented by Voshan Fine Arts Gallery in Palo Alto, Connextions Gallery in Sausalito and Healdsburg, Allegro Gallery in Portola Valley and am currently showing at the Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek, Casa Galleria in San Juan Bautista, and Los Gatos Framing in Los Gatos. I have also exhibited at the annual Saratoga Rotary Art Show at West Valley College. My work has won awards at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, the Los Gatos Art Association, the Visual Artists Association Summit at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara and the Santa Clara County Fair. I have recently closed my design business and now paint full time.
No matter what the subject, I like to show the brushwork or "structure" of the painting with a technique known as "alla prima".
There is a wealth of subject matter here in California and I tend to paint scenes from the Bay Area and surrounding countryside. I paint mostly in my studio in Los Gatos where I have lived for many years.
