Born December 26th 1976 in the Czech republic, Andrea Absolonova was a member of her country's high diving team. While training for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games (in Atlanta, USA) she suffered a spinal injury while diving from a 10m platform. Although she was able to learn to walk again, she was not able to continue her athetic career.
With no other source of income available, Andrea turned to the adult entertainment industry, and, under the name Lea de Mae, made adult films in Europe and the USA.
Andrea passed away on Thursday 9th December 2004 in a Prague hospital after a battle with a rare form of brain cancer called Glioblastoma. It is a great shame that, having worked for companies which made a lot of money from her appearances, she died unable to afford the travel to see specialists who might have been able to help, or at least ease her suffering in the final weeks. This reflects badly on an industry that has tried to project the image of a respectable business. The details of her medical treatment in hospital also tell a story that is far from ideal. Unfortunately, it is also far from uncommon to hear stories such as doctors saying that vital equipment "is not available at weekends."
Andrea was a very courageous and beautiful woman who went long before her time.
