BIO by NICKY LONDON
Gaisha - I was born in dover, new jersey then moved to new york in 1996.
Tallula - I was raised in the swamps of Southern Louisiana. Obviously, things are very
different there, and in many ways, very difficult. Technically, I moved to New York four years ago to
pursue my musical education and career, but spiritually, i moved to new york because it is a place
of movement, inspiration, and humanity, and somewhere that i've always felt at home.
Current occupation and/or title?
G - my family owns a title agency where i am currently working. i am also
experimenting as a freelance make-up artist.
T - I am a classical musician and nightlife personality mainly, but i have also
modeled, danced, acted, sung, and been involved in many forms of political activism. Also, I will be the political columnist for gazelle's upcoming (and sure to be fierce) magazine.
Inspiration ?
G - My inspiration is drawn from anything rich and vibrant, and anything full of
life, love, color and laughter. i am also a big fan of lucille ball, madonna
(pre-kaballah), and john galliano
T- I believe that inspiration comes from within oneself. However, we are
all shaped by our experiences, so our artistic creations are a way of translating what has happened
to us, personalizing these things with our minds and emotions, and then recommunicating them to the world again in our own individual way. To do it any other way is not quite genuine. it leads to copies of copies of something that used to work for someone else.
Objective?
G - when i first came to ny it was to escape troubles @ school and at home. This
wonderful city has opened up so many doors for me that i would have never
imagined. in the future, i hope to keep meeting as many new people as
possible and to always have an open mind in what i can do next.
T - My dream is to be creatively satiated. to be creating and expressing in every
direction that i am pulled. i know that i will never fit into boxes, and i dream that i am never forced to.
i want to remove all obstacles so that creative juices can flow through me completely freely. i also dream of a political and cultural revolution in this country. i want our society to be based on humanity and compassion, not greed and dogmatic small-mindedness.
Where do see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
G - hopefully, owning an apt. here in new york with my lover tallula and still
having great times with tallula, miranda and the rest of my friends.
T - Can't project into the future like that. I take things day by day. I hope that i always have artistic
integrity and people around me that i love.
If you could give one piece of advise to someone who has aspirations of following in your footsteps what would it be?
G - be kind to everyone, meet new people, stay focused and always make your own
clothes!
T - Don't let them beat you down. Glamour is born of adversity. be aware, informed, and thoughtful
and don't be afraid of your own artistic monster!
