DEATH BY DRINK AND DRUGS

GG Allin

Ask GG Allin what type of music he played and the outrageous East Coaster was liable to tell you: "Mud, rot, cunt-suckin' sleaze trash." Christened Jesus Christ Allin at his religious-nut father's insistence, but later changed by mom to plain Kevin Michael, he started out by playing in local punk bands around New Hampshire. One night someone spiked his drink with LSD in Dunkin' Donuts and Kevin became GG, and GG was wild. Very wild; and not a little mad. Staying at a woman's house after a gig in Ann Arbour, he waited for her to wake up, and then tortured her by cutting her breasts, stomach and face, dripping hot wax into her wounds, stubbing out cigarettes on her skin and choking her for three days. Allin claimed that the woman was "into it", that she knew it was a form of art. Even so, he pleaded no contest to felonious assault charges and spent eighteen months in prison.

After his release in 1991, GG formed the Murder Junkies with his equally mad brother, Merle. "Prison was the best thing that happened to GG," claims Merle. "It made him more angry, stronger, and it made him realize that he wanted to go out and fuck other people up." Part of GG's act involved pissing and shitting on stage, then he'd slash at his body with knives, before sucking up the mess and eating it. As a result, he was regularly ill with blood poisoning and often arrested. Between 1990 and his death in 1993, GG Allin was arrested fifty-six times. He kept his belongings in a brown paper sack, smashed his teeth out with a microphone and refused to pay taxes. GG's ultimate aim was to kill himself on stage, and he wanted to take as many members of the audience with him as possible. One possible plan involved sticking dynamite up his ass, another centred around a machine-gun. In the end he died of a drug-overdose, weakened by another bout of blood-poisoning. Ironically, it was his audience that did for him at his last ever gig, feeding him pills as he writhed around on the floor, already high on heroin and drunk from a jug of Jim Beam.
