The theme of the "Morton Downey Jr. Show" that taped Friday was "Has Rock Lost its Edge?" But before Mort could even ponder that poser, his producers had found that one of the rock panelists had gone overthe edge in his hotel room the night before. Punk rocker G.G. Allin was arrested at the WWOR-TV studio in Secaucus, N.J., on Friday for allegedly trashing his room at the Red Roof Inn, accommodations furnished by the "Downey" show. Unable to make bail, the singer, whose real name is Kevin M. Allin, was given an unfashionable room with bars in the Hudson County Jail in Jersey City, where he stayed until Sunday. "This has never happened before," said exec producer Bill Boggs. "I went over there to see it, and there was spray paint on the walls, swastikas, a lamp was ripped out, and the headboard had all this stuff written on it in ink." When told of the trashing, said Boggs, he confronted Allin, and the musician denied it. "I said it was up to him to discuss it with [the hotel], and there were three burly Secaucus policemen who took him away." Boggs said Allin was cancelled as a guest and the show ended its involvement with him. "It's between him and the hotel," said Boggs, who said the damage has been estimated at "several thousand dollars." The hotel wouldn't comment. "It was a fluke, but it was disgraceful behavior," Boggs said.
