A PICTORIAL TRIBUTE TO RACCOON JOHN SMITH
In collecting and compiling the information for my latest book, RACCOON JOHN SMITH: FRONTIER KENTUCKY'S MOST FAMOUS PREACHER, I amassed quite a collection of images. The University Press of Kentucky could only include a fraction of them in the finished work, so I include some of the extras here, the portraits of individuals with whom a genuine Kentucky legend once worked and preached. Special thanks to Scott Harp of TheRestorationMovement.com and to David Vardiman for their generous contributions.
"Raccoon" John Smith (1784-1868), frontier Kentucky's most famous preacher
Jeremiah Vardeman (1775-1842), Raccoon John's longtime Baptist preaching partner and political mentor

James Challen, author of one of Raccoon John's first biographical sketches
John Augustus Williams (1824-1902), author of Raccoon John's first full-length biography
