dope on how to do a bcc on unix in pine and at the command prompt.
at the unix command prompt cat letter | mail -m bcc name1 name2 name3 ...... works as well> Test message.
Your test for me worked, but I am not sure what you were testing. Normally, tests are to check the validity of an address list, since if an address is bad, then the mail daemon will send it back telling you that.
I have a few suggestions though, regardless of what you were testing.
First, if you don't know already, check into the use of the carbon copy (cc:) and the blind carbon copy (bcc:) address blocks. If you don't have those, then you can simply add them by typing them in. With some email programs like Pine, you can enRich the header to create the bcc: by pressing ^ (control) r or ^R.
Second, dunno why you use capital letters in addresses, that is very rare because it is internet lingo for YELLING. And some sites won't properly recognize all or part caps, but that normally only applies to IDs and not email addresses.
Third, when you send email with all of the addresses in the to: or cc: blocks, you are exposing all of YOUR addresses to everyone else the email goes to. I could simply use the Take feature of Pine and put every single address, one at a time, into my address book. That is why there is the bcc: With that, you email it to yourself, put all the addresses into the bcc: and each and every address gets it WITHOUT a single other address. There are two main reasons for protecting the addresses of your friends and acquaintenances. Foremost is the security threat. There are numerous incidents where individuals used multiple addresses to communicate one and over time convinced the first person they were friends of the other addresses. I know of two rapes that resulted. The other is spam (unwanted email, advertising or not). Putting it simply, there is no logical reason to share your address list with anyone else unless you are selling it. Nothing illegal about that, but maybe a little unethical, and there goes some friends.
I hope your test was productive. Only reason for the long response, or any response at all, is I am watching a basketball game: NOTE that I chose not to send this response to your entire address list. See, I practice what I preach. Happy surfing, and if you have any questions about anything computer related, I either have the answer or can get it probably quicker than anyone else. Why do I do that? Because I have had a home computer more than 20 years, a lot of people ask me questions, and if I don't have the answer, then I find it and have it for the next peep that wants to know. Who knows, I might write a book and retire for the third time...hehehe:)
